Hi guys I wrote up a Kart Rider game for my classes next tues and would welcome critique before hand.

First part of the lesson they must design a Kart and try to write why they want to be in the Kart Rider races.

Then they assign 9 points to their kart, over 3 variables: speed, handling, strength (these will be pretaught)

Finally they design a racetrack and place special card spots:

Weapon Cards
Random Cards
Straight Cards (when they are on a straight)
Corner Cards

They get special stuff depending on their stats and English ability.

Its gonna be fun but if neone wants to help me determine length of the course (i figure they do 3 laps) then drop me a pm and i'll send across the stuff.

That reminds me of the old card game Mille Bornes (1000 Miles). You were racing to a total of 100 miles, and you had mileage cards (50, 75, and 100 miles, for example) as well as weapons like flat tires and breakdowns, and various defensive cards like repairs, spare tires, etc. It was a great game, there must be an online version of it somewhere...

wow Blunder1983! I have to hand it to you. You put a lot of thought into your activities. With so many complications though, does it not get hard to teach? Or distracting from the language objectives?

I picked up a much simpler idea somewhere else. I make a race track out of flash cards. I put two place-markers opposite from each other, one for each team, and they roll a die to see how many cards they can go, with the idea they have to complete a language task on the card they land on to stay there. Both markers go in the same direction, and the objective of the game is to catch your opponent.
