I like how it says "..if the survey is to be believed."
If the article was "Korean toddlers smartest in the world" or "cutest in the world" that phrase would have been totally excluded, and the whole survey would have been portrayed as scientific fact that could not be disputed. |

"51.4 percent of respondents said their babies go to sleep after 10 p.m.... Among Korean parents, 36.8 percent answered they had taken their toddlers out after 9 p.m., 46.2 percent of them to discount stores and 29.4 percent to parks."

I've talked with a lot of Korean parents and students and by and large, there is no "bed time" in Korea. Kids stay up as long as they want. Of course mom SLEEPS whenever she wants, which accounts for the 3 year olds playing in the parking lot alone in the afternoon! |

The rule seems to be total indulgence while they are little. |

It's amazing the number of kids stay up late at night.
Letty has a fixed bedtime of 8pm. Adjusted by what time she has a nap and gets up from that nap. If it is only a couple of hours from her bedtime, I let her stay up a little longer, say an hour. Then she goes to bed. Normally it's 8pm. We rarely go out at night and when we do, we make sure we are home before 8, so she has her bath and then bed.
My mum has always said that children thrive on routines, and I am beginning to reap from her wisdom!!! |

yeah one of the things that shocked me was seeing kids awake so late
like 13 year olds still out on a bus at midnight going home
FROM A HAKWON!! jesus!!
little kids like 7 or 9 years old still out and about at 11pm or so
man in my country you only see street kids out after 10pm
all kids are home in bed at 10:30pm..
but hey thats korea..
they make up for lost sleeping time in school. when they al sleep on their desks! and learn nothing!!! |
