I heard him, too. The man sounds like a first class whiner. |

Real leaders always contrast with bureaucrats like that...but I'll agree that this mayor has some populist tendencies. |

i don't know man. i'm usually a pretty cynical person when it comes to politicians, but that didn't sound like something that was read off of a teleprompter. that guy was sincerely pissed off, and my heart was warmed when i heard him speak. i think the man rocks. |

Oh, yeah, I liked him too. I think he makes people like the U.S. Senator who I saw earlier on CNN look entirely out-of-touch with reality.
Populist politicians get people saying things like "I think the man rocks," though, that's their talent. Just be careful how far you follow guys like that, that's all. They tend to get the herd running towards the cliffs, and by the time anyone says, "wait a minute, where are we going?" they have usually been led way past the edge of the cliff... |

Do you think the relief effort would've been quicker if the disaster had occured in a major city, New York -than New Orleans?
The mayor also notes an interesting point: much of the violence is being committed by drug addicts going through sudden withdrawal. |

No, he is definitely a first class whiner. Actually it sounded to me like he was going through a withdrawal of his own. |

You know what? This mess is really NO's fault. I can't imagine a dumber idea than building a city behind an giant wall that keeps out a massive amount of water. That wall created an environmental condition where the amount of water gets larger.
The evacuation warning came well over a 100 years ago. I'm tired of being stuck to some report by a consulting firm that wants a contract to make a bunch of money to improve the wall. Other cities are in the hurricaine belt but NO is different in that has a disaster ready to 24/7/365. |

Do me a favour. Don't attempt to politicize what happened. It only cheapens the plight of the dead and dying. |

I've always thought that NO was a major city.
Interesting take on the looting.
Wanna grab some guns and a truck and go shopping down there? |

Huh? Did rapier write something about looting? I don't see it there in the quote. |

I was just watching CNN....they knew that this would happen one day. Apparently, it was well know that a category 3+ hurricane would break the levys. Didn't they have some kind of plan? Did nobody in government realize that some people might not be able to afford to leave the city? No busses, no evacutation assistance, just an order to leave. They didn't have some kind of emergency plan concernng where these refugees could go and how thye would be fed? WTF!?
Anyone know more details? |
