The point isn't what could have been done over the last 40 years, although more should have been done and presidents of both parties and governors of the states involved have had the opportunity. The point is that THIS president has made 'security' the guiding issue of his administration over the last 4 years and has reduced the budget of FEMA. Something does not compute.

And this is all despite the fact that several days' advance notice were had that Katrina was coming, and four years' warning that the levees weren't prepared for a storm that strong.

exactly, then why the hell are people still there? and please dont say they are too poor to leave, that is BS

Not BS. True. It is just sad that you need to believe otherwise.

Good luck. You'll never forgive yourself if you have bad luck, or suffer for poor decisions. Sad.

I totally agree with the above poster. One should move years in advance. Leave his/her house and cool/not so cool job/lifestyle and go to Salt Lake city. Hey, so what if you started from scratch and eeked out a decent living in New Orleans, you know somethings going to hit you once and a while so maybe move to New York. If you can make it in New York you can make it anywhere (except New Orleans).
