He'll make something up to blame whitey somehow. In the past, he has claimed that AIDS is a man-made disease meant to whipe out blacks and that crack was introduced in the 70s to destroy the Black Panthers and cripple black society.

Personally, if I had nothing to eat or drink for days and no hope of it coming and I found a store to loot, I'd loot it. And if other people had gotten there first and taken all the good stuff, I'd take whatever was left, be it beer, sneakers, or oversized sports shirts. I'd take it and hope I could trade it for what I need. Somewhere, there might be someone who had a good supply of food, but desperately needed clothes. Trade. Some of those people carrying off bags of things we might think useless in the situation might be doing the only thing they can. When it comes to survival, it IS every person for him/herself. And in a situation where money is really going to do you little good, what you have available for trade might be what keeps you alive.

So what about the people taking TVs and other electronic goods, you ask? Again, these people lost everything. If having a TV to sell or trade later on when things get better gives that person money or food to live on, who WOULDN'T take it? Are you going to say, I'm sorry, but I'm just too moral to take it? You are not in that situation. You don't know how strong your instinct for survival really is...and I'll bet that goes double/triple/quadruple for those there with their families, children, elderly parents, etc. who are the main support/hope of those who depend on them.

I'm an extremely law-abiding citizen. But, if I were in New Orleans, I'd be doing whatever it takes to insure my survival, not just that day, but for the next few days, weeks, months, whatever. Even if it means something as "horrendous" as *gasp* looting Wal-Mart and making off with all their size 20 sneakers.

You know you're from New Orleans when ...
... the city is open for looting, and you immediately think of Wal-Mart.

If you haven't lived there, I don't think you'll understand how true that is.

Hahahahahaha.....I'm not sure if you were referring to me, but I said Wal-mart because that is the store name that keeps cropping up on the news. But I know what you mean....I'm from a town that when it first got Wal-mart, that became THE hottest place to go and be. Laughing

He's certainly not the first, nor will he be the last. Do you really think that the crack accusation is that far-fetched? If you read into facts which have surfaced regarding COINTELPRO, some of his arguments hold merit.

It of course doesn't hurt that these comments come when his sophomore album has just been released (or maybe it does). Still, it's pretty narrow-minded to believe that the US government hasn't wrongfully and knowingly targeted the "meek and oppressed" in the past, both domestically and abroad (see: Africa, etc.).

Furthermore, why would his goal be to "blame whitey"? That's a fairly cookie-cutter rebuttal. What does he have to gain by trying to pin blame on innocent Whitey? The majority of people who buy his records are white. He's rich. I find it pretty honorable that a person in such a position would use their celebrity to address such issues. Rather than, say, demonizing parents who give their children Ritalin.

But if either of you believe that everything is just hunky-dory, and that West is saying the sun orbits the earth, then go ahead. There are plenty who will agree with you, too.

In recent days, a number of readers of Yahoo! News have commented on differences in the language in two Hurricane Katrina-related photo captions (from two news services). Since the controversy began, the supplier of one of the photos – AFP – has asked all its clients to remove the photo from their databases. Yahoo! News has complied with the AFP request.

So, Yahoo pulled the pic of the white guy 'FINDING' stuff so all that remains is A BLACK WOMAN LOOTING. Does anyone have the original pic and comment?
