|
|
Has anyone on here ever managed to procure a "permission form" from a Korean climbing or hiking club? Heorakseo is the romanization, though given the dodginess of the site where I found it, I wouldn't be surprised if it was wrong.
We're planning a trip north and want to camp near Insubong. Has anyone done this? Any light that anyone could shed on this would be much appreciated. In fact, given our success rate at getting replies to our threads on these various 'foreigner forums', any response at all would be a good one. Why not keep us on our toes by giving us false information? Even just plain mockery would suffice.
Thanks a lot, you rock,

Working on it, have some patience....
Seriously, good luck. I kind of gave up on camping after hearing one too many stories from students where 'camping' meant setting up a tent in a parking lot or staying in a 'condo'.
So I'm guessing that permission to camp on mountains and other real wilderness spots must be pretty dear... have you tried the KNTO?

Thanks for the reply,
You're right. I have noticed a trend for what is known in Korean outdoor magazines as 'Autocamping'. It tends to involve more rocks/asphalt/concrete than I think is necessary, but as they say, each to their own.
Camping in the Bukhansan park is merely a 'not have to go back into Seoul every night' tactic for climbing at Insubong. If the pictures are anything to go by they have trees there and even grass!
The link is a good one! Could be just what we were looking for,

Oh, rock climbing at Bukhansan! That looks like a great place for it. Every time I went up Bukhansan (only 2 times, and not climbing but 'the regular way') the air quality was shite and the visibility was poor... I'd love to go up there on a clear fall day.
Have you checked out the links here?

"There is a camping fee at insubong campground but no Westerner I Know has ever paid the 3,000 won (about $3) for a tent with three people . Koreans tend to go easy on wegukins when assessing charges. Baekunsanjang-which I mentioned above, 15 minutes up the valley- has a huge loft and cosy, ski lodge atmosphere for those who want a roof over their heads. They charge 3,000 won a night per person. There is no time limit at either place. At soninbong there is a campground with the same, nominal camping fees as at Soninbong. One can also stay at the nearby Tobong Mountain House for 3,000 won a night in a youth hostel style accommodation." |
