I don't think we'll ever get the real, whole, complete truth. We never do. The media can be biased, they can 'get it wrong', but that's always going to be the price of a free media. Does anyone seriously want a less than free media? I hope not.

Either way, we can always change history later, just like Japan, China, and Korea often do. Rolling Eyes

I suppose every country does that, however. My US friend was taught that the war of 1812 was a big victory over the British. In fact, if the US had not reacted the way it did during that war, Canada would almost certainly be part of the USA!

Not only would that combination be the largest superpower on Earth by far, it would also be the single largest consumer of mac and cheese known in the history of mankind.

Just an update to this story...reports from various sources on the inaccurate reporting and rumors surrounding Katrina/its aftermath:

The Washington Post
New York Times
AP

Not saying it wasn't bad, but it wasn't as bad as we were led to believe - certainly as far as loss of life is concerned.

As far as sexual crimes are concerned...

Quote:
Judy Benitez, executive director of the Louisiana Foundation Against Sexual Assault, cautioned that it might be too soon to say whether there really were rapes at the evacuation sites.

Because the evacuees and any perpetrators have been scattered across the country by Katrina, and now Hurricane Rita, victims may come forward later, she said.

"It is extremely difficult to get good statistics about rape under normal circumstances, and these are certainly not normal circumstances," she said.

But, as of today,
Quote:
They have no official reports of rape and no eyewitnesses to sexual assault.

("they" being the police)
