While this thread may not really be worth bringing back on topic...
I have started to see my elementary school girl students wearing the arc-welding mask style visors. I find this unbelievably sad. Can't they at least let these poor young women have a chance before they have to start dressing like ajummas? What's next, the perm???? |

To-days agassis and mishis are to-morrow's adjumas.
Kangnam adjumas are different from the other adjumas. |

What's up H&T? You really are a native Korean, eh?
Anyways, Western culture is "the arguing/debating culture," so don't get so defensive and hyped up. The purpose of this discussion seems to be a harmless expression of one's misunderstandings & frusterations with the differences found here.
Sure, if you came to North America, you'd find things weird too, but then wouldn't you be comforted to have someone to yack with about it?
If you want to explain the reasons why you Koreans do some of the things you do, then that's great, explain. But DON'T ATTACK. Ok? What's up with you? Westerners are not against Koreans, we just need some place we can discuss & vent, because that is part of OUR culture. If you have a problem with that, then maybe you shouldn't be taking part in a discussion forum dominated by Westerners who live in Asian societies. |

I think we should give respect to old(er) people, but not if they walk around demanding it. I don't even really care about them earning my respect, but sometimes, older people here walk around acting like they're part of an elite class, or that other people just don't matter.
For instance, this has happened so many times....I'm standing in line - not even first, usually 3rd or 4th, and some ajuma or ajoshi just walk to the front and start ordering or talking to the cashier like no one else is even there.
I mean, most ajumas/ajoshis I've met have been really nice, but you can't say "We have to respect them because they're older. Just let them do what they want because they're older." There has to be some kind of limits. I just think this respect for one's elders can get too far drilled into one's (your) head. |

Wasup with the full face visors that I'm starting to see everywhere?
Last weekend we were down at the park. A group of ladies sitting next to us were all wearing those dark tinted full face visors. They were carrying on what sounded like a normal conversation but with visors in the completely down position. The only time they'd lift their visor was to take a quick bite of kim pap.
It was really freaky.
Since then I've started to notice them all over the place completey pulled down to cover their face.
Is it the in thing to do? |
