Large Portion of Los Angeles Loses Power
Monday, September 12, 2005
LOS ANGELES — A major portion of Los Angeles (search) lost power Monday afternoon.
Outages were reported from downtown to the coast and north into the San Fernando Valley (search).
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power did not immediately have an explanation for what happened.
A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department (search) said the Department of Water of Power was investigating the source of the outage. Terrorism was not suspected, according to Sgt. Catherine Plows, though the department went on "full tactical alert," meaning no officers were allowed to leave duty. |

I guess Dave's server isn't in LA...
Their grid is shot. I used to work for a company that sold medical electronics to LA hospitals and everything would get hosed every couple of months due to all the blackouts, brownouts, surges, spikes, etc. |

Utility error blamed for L.A. blackout
Utility workers connected the wrong wires and caused a blackout across major portions of Los Angeles on Monday afternoon, trapping people in elevators and snarling traffic at intersections, authorities said.
About 2 million people were affected by the resulting power surge and outages, which were reported from downtown west to the Pacific Coast and north into the San Fernando Valley....

I predicted this a week ago on my prophecies thread.
Mass power failures in the wake of katrina.
And i predict more: the U.S is badly prepared to handle power shortages: no extra power available.. I also see a couple more terrorism attacks and a devastating earthquake in California within 2 years. |

Wow! More terrorist attacks? That's really going out on a limb! Why don't you really live dangerously and say WHERE they will take place? And please, for those of us who are mortals, please define precisely what you mean by "devastating."
My one attempt at predicting: A hurricane will hit Florida in the next 5 years. |

You utter imbicile:
LA has been having power grid problems for a lot longer than a week ago.
And the LA power outage had absolutely nothing to do with Katrina, weather, or Nostradamus- it was simple human error,
and there is a post DIRECTLY above yours which CLEARLY spells this out.
Magnificent act you've got there, Carnac.

Giant Solar Flare Hits U.S., Canada
By Larry O'Hanlon, Discovery News
Sept. 12, 2005— A rowdy sunspot cluster hurled a record-breaking flare into space on Wednesday, blacking out all high- and low-frequency radio communications on both American continents, causing power surges, blinding satellites and lighting up aurorae, and more trouble is likely on the way, say experts.
