any "artists" here?

i was trained as a graphic designer, but i have a series of abstract compositions that i think may be accepted in Korea if i could get some exposure... i was wondering if anyone else has had any success infiltrating the Korean art world...

Thought about doing something similar when i first came to korea. I freelanced as a cartoonist for while in Australia and thought there might be some kind of market over here.... somehow though i kind of lost my urge (well losing it was ohne of the reasons i stopped it in aussie) and never really got my act together... In any case, i guess my style isn't really whats popular here..... I refuse to do over-cutified big-eyed fluffy things and i'm not into the computer-game character thing either....

I'm an artist. Mainly oil landscapes. I'd like to get back into portraits and figure studies if I ever make it out of this tiny village and to a place that has an artist community. I've only been in Korea a couple months and haven't exhibited yet.

In the U.S. I was a member of the Orlando Visual Artists League (OVAL) and for a while was able to make a living between selling my artwork (abstract, far-out stuff, naturally - as one would expect of a re-incarnation of Arshile Gorky...) and doing movie-extra ("background character acting") work in productions around central Florida. When I first came to Korea in 2002 I joined the "Seoul International Visual Artists Society" (SIVAS) which was started by an American couple who were also DOD contractors. They were had their own small gallery for members in Samkakji, and they arranged for qualified members to do group and solo exhibitions at various places that were interested in helping the "Helping Hands Korea" charity they were affiliated with that aided North Korean refugees and orphans...I had a show lined up with them, but about a year-and-a half (or two years) ago they announced that they were phasing out most of their programs because of scheduled relocation of American troops...I'm not sure what their status in Korea is now, but the head of SIVAS is Thomas Dembeck...(I can dig up his email address if anyone is interested in contacting him about possible membership - if it's still active.

If anyone's interested in collaborating on a film, I could use a new project.
I usually work on sparse narrative dramas or abstract video pieces...
After writing some plays for my students however, I could go for some more straight forward comedy as well.

Nam June Paik (or Nam Paik June) is a famous high-tech video artist - some of his exhibitions utilize hundreds of monitors, and he is represented in top museums like the Guggenheim. (Of course, he may be very hard to reach ... I was half-joking when I suggested it, but - who knows ? - if you can somehow interest him in your art work it'd be a major push.)

As for the film-maker, I might be interested in collaborating on a monumental work featuring the "wit and wisdom of Rteacher" By now, you've probably noticed the "Anybody want to make a movie?" thread on the "off-topic" forum. While I've offered some ideas there, I'm a little disheartened by their choice of the Itaewon "Burger King" (Sept. 24) as the initial meeting place for brainstorming etc...
