| Oh and I find your insinuations that myself and Yu Bum are bad teachers quite offensive. Attempting to inject interest into lessons in whatever form should be encouraged, the students get enough dry meaningless twaddle in their everyday lives as it is. |
So what you are saying is that the result outweighs the means. You think you can use anything under the sun (right or wrong), as long as your students are speaking English. I am not judging your ethics or lack of, just pointing out that I believe that we as educators have a responsibility to protect our students and their fragile psyche. Using things that may be harmful to this is irresponsible and against the moral code of teachers. We are to instill knowledge in students, not harm them for the rest of their lives. If you are offended by me questioning your quality as a teacher, maybe you have some inward looking to do. |

I have heard a saying that seems to ring true in this situation:
If you think you are fat, you probably are, so shut up and diet fatty. |
Yes, I do believe you are the one to be giving lessons in sensitivity. |

So the students draw characters / animes, whatever, come up with a list of personal characteristics, we judge what is the best creation from homeroom 2Jin, and this is going to damage their phyches? Yes, what callous, sexist, shallow, uncaring old sods we must be.
A part of me, however, is tempted to follow your line of reasoning just to take all their bloody mirrors away. |

Are you stalking me? I am happily married and do not need the comfort of a lady of your age. I appreciate the thought though, and am sure your stallion will trot up soon. |

Backtracking? So now it is just "personal characteristics? I am sure it will quite quickly blur into a popularity contest with the prettiest picture winning and most of the "characteristics" being based on personal beauty. You can call it what it want, but if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck... it is a duck.

So it's based partly on who can draw the most beautiful picture? This gives one of the more unattractive girls a chance to win something based on her creativity and skill. |

Exactly, you already have stereotypes about who of your "middle school students" are attractive and who are unattractive. You are working on this prejudice and moreover probably harming their fragile ego's in the process. It is truly a sad day on daves esl. I am glad you admitted how you really see your students, as attractive and unattractive, instead of students like they should be seen. |

Oh tell me you're just taking the piss. Actually I see them all as dorky nerds, but I love them anyways. |

Lol good ol' magic your trollriffic!
Yep ur absloutely right not only do i segregate students between the ones i like and dont, I send the ones i like the least out! Dont want em grossing me out now do I.
Any rational statement you made has been nullified by later rantings, and as desultude pointed out, this isnt the only thread u've had a good trolltastic time on. I'm surprised you can teach ur kids to be honest, the light emitted from your halo must be pretty blinding for them.
I'm running with the soap opera characters and Scott's modified suggestions.
Now whilst that suggestion is undoubtedly inferior to the merest iota of your teaching, he took time to see the idea, appreciate the certain tricky aspects (which i was aware of and was the whole reason I posted this) modified it slightly and came up with an idea which is enjoyable and a good teaching tool.
Personally, I'd look to assist people out rather than pointless flame wars, especially since you seem to know everything already.
Still your bigoted views gave me a smile. |
