Jules, Nigel, Harlod, Oliver, Geoffrey, Edward, Harriet, Eleanor, Elizabeth. Those are pretty English sounding to me.

I like Aloysius.

I teach kids called Aragon, Legolas, Marino, Licky... It makes them more interesting than the usual crap. I also just named a class after the South Park kids (including Timmy).

How many Koreans have Black American names? Well, some of my students have 'em now:

Kyesha
Jamal
Latonda
Tyrone
Tyreese
Curtis
Mashanda

I've also given out these names:

Aidan
Francis
Roxann
Lily
Hannah

Unusual/mangled names I've come across:

Netty
Witty
Yesir (his Korean mom gave him this one; we both agreed it was terrible but she wouldn't let him change it)
Kail
Jin

Boy or girl? I have a boy named "Nety", I can't figure out why, except that it rhymes with his older brother's "Eddy".

As in "Yasser Arafat" or as in "Sir, Yes, Sir"?

Called a girl Nico once. The kids turned it into Geko, which means "dogs nose".

I had two twins and their cousin in my kindy class once. The twins were Ali and Frazier, and the cousin was Big George. That only lasted until the next class with the Korea teacher.

Have you considered Chewbacca?

Had a really tall girl who wanted an English name the other week and so I suggested 'Venus'. She didn't want it because Venus Williams is black. I should have named her Latoya or Mashanda or something.

When I was coming up with English names for my 900 plus high school students I had to resort to some pretty unusal names.

My students particularly loved the Roman names ... Julius, Max, Tiberius, etc.
