I am wondering if anyone has had eye surgery here. How satisfied are they with it? How much did it cost? Was it easy to communicate with the doctor? How does it compare with back home? And do you know any good places in the Seoul area? Any help to these questions would be great. Have a good chuseok everyone.

What kind of surgery do you need? I have cataracts myself and need to have an eye fixed lest I become unable to read this...... Can anyone recommend a good doctor in Seoul, Daejeon, or Daegu (or points inbetween), who has done lots of this kind of surgery?

There's a little info on this thread about cataract surgery:

and I know there's been a few lengthy threads about LASIK here too.

I teach at a public high school, and a Korean teacher who speaks some English told me she got Lasik surgery and, in response to my asking how she liked it, she gave an enthusiastic thumbs up. When I asked her "how much?," she said it was less than 200,000 - with her insurance card. Since I supposedly am covered by medical insurance (though they haven't given me the card yet...) I was going to seriously look into it since my "progressive" lenses and decent frames cost me almost double that... (I find it a little hard to believe that our insurance really covers lasik surgery, though...)

I would be extremely suprised if it did. It's elective.

Does anybody how the safety rate of Korean LASIK compares to that in America? I'm thinking side effects, etc. I've heard some stories that have put me off it so far.
