I have no doubt that that is true. But my point is to put the responsibility on the hakwon owner's shoulders. If they can't produce a signed note from Immy, then I say "Don't work". If you do work and have a note then you are safe. |

Chuseok is a terrible time to go for a visa run. Hotels and ferries are pretty much booked and quite expensive this time of year. The fact that your wonjanim was able to buy herself some time was a good move. Not only would she get fined, you would also.
Do you like the kids, neighborhood, co-workers, and conditions? Sounds like she's done a lot for you guys already. She's gone all out for you with the bribe to make sure you aren't deported. Still, you're teaching illegally. Find out Tuesday morning what she's got planned.
She may be trying to get her business up and running. It will be hard on her economically to find another teacher. Give her some credit. |

This is all well and good but at the end of the day she is making them teach illegally and may be just deferring responsibility by paying a bribe...
It can be cheaper to pay the occasional bribe than to go through proper procedure(I've seen it happen to a couple poor unfortunant souls - 2 different Candians) and in the end leaves up shit creek without a paddle...
I hate to be ego-centric but when you are new in a foreign country you have to look out for yourself first, if your instincts are telling you something is wrong than more than probably they are... |

Sorry, it's hard for me to find sympathy for the wonjangnim here since she was the one who put herself and the OP in this situation in the first place. There's no excuse for her to put him in jeopardy by having him work on a tourist visa. There's no one else to teach the classes? Tough, take it on the chin and lose some students. Don't put your employee at risk of getting deported. |

A good move?  basically telling immigration that you are involved in illegal acts and then committing yet another illegal act (bribery) is not what I would call a good move...more like a collosal blunder in a chain of blunders.

The dumb biatch wouldnt have had to 'go all out' if she had her act together in the first place...it doesnt matter how much you like the kids that isnt going to save your bacon when immi comes kicking in the door is it?

So what? It is her business but it is their livelihood..their status that is in peril.....if the dumb bunny couldnt get orginized in the first place she shouldnt have started up a business(speculation on your part)
Give her some credit lets see...she has lied to them from day one....jerked them around and basically been dishonest.

Sounds like a typical "new hagwan" where the wanjang(nimless) doesn't have a clue what she's doing. She's probably heard rumours that immigration is easily bribed etc. Not that this excuses her behavior, it just is a common thing for clueless wannabee hagwan directors to start a new hagwan and expect miracles without any effort on their part.
She'll probably end up selling the school or losing her business before the year is out. |

All I'm saying is that it's a tough time of year to be sending teachers on a visa run especially at peak season. My guess she's trying to save money and just buy time, literally, waiting for cheaper and more available visa run options to open up. |

duly noted, but again so what?
By waiting she is only increasing the chances of getting caught and doubling the costs to herself.
Teachers wising up and getting the hell out of dodge.
She loses airfare and then will need to replace the said teachers.
Immigration coming knocking, fining her, her teachers and deporting them...again out airfare and fines.
No one should ever work without getting their visa in their passport first...those that do have no reason to cry over their spilt milk when things go sour. |
