There is a train in Changwon. I'm not sure about the frequency(about 3 or 4 a day) but I think it takes about 5 hours. Failing that you ca always go to masan, i is on a major line and trains to Seoul rock through there all the time.

not to hijack the thread -

Merrillee, there are lots of trains heading for Seoul every day from Ch'ang-won; in fact, Ch'ang-won actually has 2 train stations.

The problem with Ch'angwon~Seoul travel is one of price/inconveniences.

The bus station is relatively close to the city center (over by Home Plus); you take a local bus or taxi over there & get a ticket for one of the buses. Traffic-dependent, you can be in Seoul in 5 hours. But, you are actually arriving SE of Seoul proper, south of the Han River.

To get to the train station, you will need to take a taxi (you could do it by local bus, but it would take a long time); it is around 6,000+ won to do so, and takes a solid 20+ minutes. The train is more expensive than the bus, but more comfortable, and unphased by traffic. When you arrive in Seoul, you will be near city hall - a decently central location.

From several places in Ch'ang-won, you can purchase an air-ticket/limo bus combo. Definitely the most comfortable way to do it, but not neccessarily the fastest - you take the limo bus over to Gim-hae, board, and have a short flight, which drops you pretty far west of Seoul proper, although there is a subway directly connecting to the airport. Last flight out from C-w is about 8:30, unless things have changed.

now, for the LP thing:

Romanization (properly spelled with a Z Razz ) is a big problem; Korean edition is meant for tourists, and things change around here very, very rapidly - that is why all the books have the disclaimers.

I am sorry to see them droopping their online e-updates, but find the Postcards/Thorn Tree to be more than compensatory, IFF you do your research beforehand.

For the maps and the phrases written in English~local language~Romanization, I usually get my money's worth.

After my Cambodia month 2 years ago, I sent off a huge manuscript as well - most of those changes/corrections got worked in.

Regards,

Glen

R-O-M-A-N-I-Z-A-T-I-O-N... Gotcha. Tried Postcards and the Thorn Tree but that didn't really help with placenames. I'm just at a really fundamental stage right now, where I would simply like to be able to place the jobs for which I'm applying on a map.

I just accepted a position, so I'm not all that concerned all of a sudden. But it still wouldn't be bad for this thread to exist for those who encounter the same problem.

There's a great handbook out there called Moon Handbooks South Korea by Robert Nilsen.

Chiming in - yeah, this one is pretty darn good.
