hi. i have a bunch of things that i would like to ship back to canada, and i have given about a month or so for them to reach there. do you have any tips, or should i just stroll into my local post office and toss a packed, addressed box at them?

i think someone told me once that you need to use their boxes...is this true?

also, are there any alternate methods to normal post?

thanks in advance.

You definitely can pack it in your own box, I've done it a million times, but they do offer packing services if you're lazy, and it's quite cheap.

AT my post office branch, they tend to want to send it airmail, but there are cheaper and slower options. Either way, you write the address on the sheet they give you, along with customs declaration etc.

You don't NEED to use their boxes, but if you are shipping a lot of stuff buying their biggest box size can possibly save you some money and/or hassles- you'll have a box of the maximum dimensions for the various standard postal shipping rates and won't get hit with a higher rate for having an oversized, overweight box. Shipping is priced by weight, and the maximum weight is 20KG. It's pretty hard to go over the maximum weight with these boxes unless you are packing one full of books, or gold ingots etc.

Just another little note! If your box is too big, they won't send it. We had a jerk of a clerk in Songtan who said our box was 2 cubic centimeters too large. We were trying to send home things for our wedding and they were even packaged by Koreans at the store in the official mailing boxes. SOOOOOO frustrating. We tried to explain that we weren't military, but it didn't matter. That is the first and only time I yelled at a Korean for being a racist pig.

Moral of the story:

Don't get a box that's too big
Don't send things from the post office in Songtan
Very Happy

By the way, maximum weight is 20 kg, and costs about 45,000 won.
