It's a pretty frickin big corporation with a lot of subsidiaries- we can't be the only 2 who have stock that's not worth the paper it's written on...

The thing that burns me is he could've been wasteful and fraudulent and enriched himself and no one would've caught on except that he was so damned blatantly extravagant and greedy and wasteful it was impossible to miss. 2 guys stealing 130 million, give or take.

Stupid greedhead bastardo -how do people like this become CEOs anyway?

Good god no, by 'boss' I meant that 'Tyco' appeared on our letterhead and paycheques. I was working for a subsidiary of a subsidiary bought up by another subsidiary which then merged with etc. which eventually ended up in Tyco Healthcare's portfolio. And I worked there for about a year, so it's not like they stole my retirement fund or anything. Still, kleptomania and larceny on such a grand scale deserves extraordinary punishment- I hope Dennis cries himself to sleep every night of his sentence.

What are your thoughts? Did he deserve it? Too harsh?

It's about time white collar criminals get their just desserts. I have always thought the white collar guys that destroy people's lives by the hundreds and thousands are every bit as bad, if not worse than, murderers, rapists, etc. The scale is just so huge. Milken should have been gassed... if I supported the death penalty.

Sponsorship scandal's Coffin sentenced to speak on ethics

September 20, 2005

MONTREAL - Instead of heading for prison, a Montreal ad executive who defrauded Canadian taxpayers of $1.5-million in the sponsorship scandal will soon be hitting the lecture circuit to counsel business students about ethics.

The court-ordered speaking tour was part of the two-years-less-a-day conditional sentence Paul Coffin was handed yesterday after pleading guilty in May to 15 fraud counts.

The first person charged in the $250-million federal sponsorship scandal, Coffin, 63, admitted that for every dollar he legitimately billed the federal government between 1997 and 2002, he illegally pocketed another.
