Thanks a lot for your advice guys. I can't really bring myself to *beep* my boss over so I'm going to give three weeks' notice tomorrow I think and see what happens.

Forget about the ethics and the legal issues- I just can't see this going well for you for the simple reason that:
in most cases it'd take a minor miracle for the school to get a legit replacement for you in 3 weeks.

So while you think you're doing the right thing by them in reality you're not really giving them enough time, so they'll be plenty pissed-
probably to the point where they'll be taking some hefty deductions out of whatever money they might owe you;
You might as well do a runner or give at least month or two because 3 weeks is a half-assed solution which is unlikely to benefit either party.

Either stick it out or a do a runner. You won't see a penny of that last month if you give them notice.

OK so I make a runner. Then what? What happens if i ever need to come back? Tourist visa denied during re-entry at customs? Fined at customs? Black mark in my passport? What???

At the very least, if your new school learns you were in Korea before and rings up your old school to get an idea what sort of teacher you were, the old school can give you the black spot and kill your chance of work.

Trust your gut instincts and do what you can live with.

If you can live with working an extra three weeks and risk not being paid for them, then give your boss three weeks notice.

If you can live with doing a midnight run, then run.

If you do decide to do a run, be sure that you have a good place to run to.

I was very tempted to do a runner last year, as I was way behind in pay and saw little chance that things would improve. But I had no where to go, (without money that is) so I pretty much had to stay.

Unless you have a job in another country secured or family or friends that you can count on, I think you might find that doing a runner would be a mistake.

Like that would ever happen to begin with...how would the new school find out about the old school? Dumb dumb dumb! The only way they could find out is if they asked you and you were stupid enough to tell them.

Kill your chance of work Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing dumb Exclamation
