Where does someone need to go to get a korean drivers licence? How much does it cost. I heard I only have to bring my canadian drivers licence.

I'm in the midst of getting one myself. You need to take your alien card and passport too. The medical is very quick (just eye and balance tests) and is about W5000. Canadians don't have to do the written test - provided your Canadian licence is current.

And DLA website doesn't give the locations, just telephone numbers. There's one behind Kangnam subway station though. I went by taxi so I don't know which exit. They have an desk for foreign drivers licence holders. I think you'll be able to get it all done in one visit.

Yeah W30-40,000. I forgot to say: take at least 6 ID photos. I haven't finished the process yet and so far they've glued more than 4 on my application.

Just food for thought: The Korean Licensing website won't tell you that if you want an international license, you have to have been a resident here for 3 years. Not that that's a problem if you want to drive in a country where you don't need an international license such as, say, Canada, where you can drive around with a Korean license for six months. Only six months, mind you. But you can switch it right back to a Canadian license if you're returning to Canada to become a resident again. Are you planning to drive anywhere else where you'll need an international license? It would have been better to get the international license in Canada when you could have.

3 Resident in Korea rule: Maybe the rule changed recently cause I recall
the DLA website saying that you should get a Korean licence after using an international one for a year.

In one of my googles on "International Drivers Licence" I saw an ad for Americans to get their international licence over the net. I didn't click the link though so I can't say more. The Australian body won't do it remote: You have to be in Australia and show them your passport.

My nieghbor called the driver's license office about the test, and apparently in Daegu they give the test for one hour on Friday morning. I teach at that time, and that is not changable. I am rather at a loss as to how to get my license.

So, the International license is only good here for one year? I was thinking of trying that route.
