How has Korean food-- or not, changed your weight. I was of average build, and two years later am about three pounds lighter. i.e. almost no change. How about you? (I eat mostly Korean food)

I think I've said this 50 times in my time on this forum. Weight has stayed the same, but I look skinnier. My face has thinned as I age, I used to have chipmunk cheeks, now I have very little padding on my body, but large muscles (mtn biking up and down Namsan as my normal route to and from school sure helps!).

Lost ten kilos the first time I arrived. Eventually I learned how to feed myself here and I've gained most of it back.

Gained over 20 kgs here, mainly due to having money again since I am not a student and giving up the 5x2hour gym sessions every morning.

I gained weight out of a combination of being lazier than I had been and then dating a bar owner--free food and drinks all the time. Plus her mom was the cook and insisted I have two dinners every night. I've been back in the states and lost about half the weight I gained, but we'll see what happens when I go back.

I'm in this funky plateau.......my weight just won't change, either up or down. If I try to diet and exercise, I won't lose really anything. However, I can eat junk all day and drink and I won't gain any either. I don't understand it. But I'm back dieting and my goal is to be back down to 53kgs. (versus the 59kgs I am now).

my weight is up, but I've been here 9+ years and am getting old and lazy. Plus like others, I have tons more dispoable income than in the past which results in eating well.

I lost a whole ton of weight when I first arrived (though I was a walking blimp). But I exercise a lot more than I did back home because I don't have a car I need to walk places and my diet is a lot better than the student diet consisting of cheap stuff and free stuff.

is it korean food or hagwon schedule?

i found that for my first year here, i slept late, ate, worked 6 hours at a hagwon and then went for dinner around 9pm. i then schlepped around and maybe had a beer or two before bed around midnight.

for me it was the schedule. i came here 185 pounds, got up to 205 and am now back to 190.

I threw up about 20kgs (75kg to 95kgs) out of sheer laziness. Now, I started working out again and am down to 87kgs Probably get down to 80 in the next month and half.

My diet has nothing to do with the weight gain. For me its simple. Laze around and the weight goes up. Be active and workout and the weight goes down.

I usually lose weight in Asia but not so much here. The reason is, a lot of the high-calorie foods I eat are impulse foods like candy. In a place like China, it's difficult and time consuming to find snacks when you have an impulse, so the impulse usually wears off and you don't snack so much. Here there is so much sweet food cheap (and BTW, real foods like rice and fruits are so darned expensive) that I find myself snacking too much. Still, I have lost some weight since arriving, simply because I've shaken off the lethargic American lifestyle (e.g., getting in the car to drive half a kilometer).
