I had the same problem when I first got here. Big itchy spots on my arms and hands that wouldn't go away for weeks.
I think I figured out what was causing it though. It seemed that the problem intensified right after I cleaned my bathroom. The chemicals that they put in the cleaners here must be much, much stronger than I was used to back home
Ever since I started using rubber gloves to clean with, the problem went away. |

Humidity + dirty air
Seems a fair bit worse in Taipei. A disproportionate amount of people have skin conditions there. |

I never had anything like this until I came to Korea in 1997. Since then I've had it off and on.. it's like it spreads if you fratch it too much. I've seen different doctors about it, and my dermatologist said that there really is no cure and that it's probably stress-related. I thought it was something in the water in Korea, but I have no idea. The medicine that they gave me that makes it go away is like a steroid cream. Maybe check into that. |

And as soon as you leave this place, even for a vacation, it will clear up.
One of the great mysteries that is KOREA! |

That has not been my experience. But hopefully, it will be yours. |

Did you get any creams for it? I've used a cream for contact dermatitis, and my rashes clear up almost right away (sorry- I don't know the name of the cream. You can just show a pharmacist your rash, and they'll give you something). You could get an air purifier, but I think they are over 100,000 won. I don't know how well they they work, though. |

does it bubble a little on your skin similar to if you've had poison ivy? I've had that shit on my finger for like a month now. It drys up then comes again. Itchy...is that it? |

You may also consider laundry detergent. There have been posters before who complained about a constant itch, changed their laundry soap and had no further problems. |

What you are probably doing is using an electric fan in your home with the windows and doors closed. I suggest opening the windows a little bit. You see, the fan burns the oxygen producing unbreathable ozone which can harm the skin. The problem is worse for foreigners because foreigners are immodest and expose far too much skin for Korea's environment. |

Excellent!
To the OP, you are lucky it is just a rash and not death you are dealing with.
(More seriosuly, how often do you shower or bathe? Are you French perhaps? ) |

Also, using protection helps. You can never be too careful these days. Bathing before was also good advice, it is a good way to make sure things will be ok. |

I thought that in Korea this practice resulted in death...not rashes.
I love the fan death myth. I've offered to try out an experiment to prove that it doesn't exist...but I get some very concerned looks from Koreans who think I'm suicidal or something. |

No, the death is a myth. The rash is real, and some have reported brain damage. |
