I have seen alot more complaint posts than usual and some people who have lived in Korea have taken them to heart.

One thing I have got to say is; Korea is not for everyone.

Some people stay here and make Korea their home and start a family and live happy lives carefree of the world around them.

Some people come here and can't stand it and only stay long enough to earn some money so they can move on to their next destination or to start their lives back home.

What they all have in common is that they were affected in one way or another by being in Korea. Along with the effect comes the good and bad about being here. And thus, brings people who come to this site to complain about their stay here, no matter how long it is...

To my fellow long-tymers (hehehe)...You remember how it was for you when you first came here. I would bet quite a few of you had a hard time adjusting before finding your nitch in society.

This is the same situation alot of young people are facing now. And I think what is making it harder on some of them is the current anti- ESL teaching environment being fermented by the media.

So, I truly believe that it was the SBS program that is causing alot of problems now for alot of us and is the motive behind the negative threads about Korea. The environment is becoming alot harder for us to do our jobs because we are seen more as criminals rather help coming here to help or to simply work.

Do I hate Korea?
No, I actually I love being here.
But it is my love for being in Korea that makes me want to complain about living here. I have my days where I can't stand to live here. But I always wake up and be thankful to have the opportunity to live and work here (not many Americans have the opportunity to come here to work) but I want to voice my opinion on some of the issues that face many of us here.

But I want to ask, is it wrong to complain?
Is it wrong to voice our opinion, though negative, about the wrong stuff that we see in this country?

I know this site is leaning on the negative, but I strongly hope that Koreans who do view the site will see the problems we are having in this country and help do something about it.

Agian, just wishful thinking

It is most definitely wrong. Why cant you guys be at peace with yourselves? Is it because of a tormented childhood??

Do you have the right to complain? Of course. Don't for a second buy that crap about how we are guests here, so we should just lay down and shut up.

Is it wrong to complain? No, it a facet of life. It's natural. You gotta vent, let out the stuff that bothers you so you can make sense of it and deal with it. I'd complain about something no matter where I was . . . but of course if you moan on too much, most folks are just gonna stop hanging out with ya. Those who don't complain are on some kinda drug, or deluded.

If complaining about stuff here will precipitate the changes that are required, so be at: rant on! I do feel that our voices will get heard, if we say the same things to enough of our Korean friends.

It is not about being at peace with ourselves.
It is about trying to voice about how we feel about our day-to-day existence here.

Is it perfect? Far from it.
But I DO make peace with myself before I go to sleep by promising myself that tomorrow is going to be a better day than the previous one.
Does that always happen? hehehhe....no

But after all the pain and suffering I see going on in my homeland, I feel lucky to be here.

And...what does this have to do with childhood experience?

To me, I feel that my childhood has made me a better teacher. How? I know how alot of these children feel and I know some of the tricks they pull on the teacher.
Not to mention how hard it is to learn something difficult, so I try to make it as easy on them as possible.
Also, having grown up in a "less than nice" neighborhood, I can adapt to living here easily too.

Again, is it wrong to voice a strong opinion about the going-ons that occur here?

I like it most of the time. It does have its moments though, and Korea has more of those bizzarro idosyncracies than most countries. Just makes it all the more amusing to live here though. Does that sound aloof?

Not wrong, just obnoxious.
This site has taught me more about American culture than Korean. I find it strange that so many citizens of the world's last remaining superpower are so weak, spoilt and quick-to-whine Rolling Eyes

No, it's not wrong to complain. What's wrong is when you let it rule your life. I find that if I spend too much time complaining, I tend to become more negative in my outlook and more judgemental of every person I meet. Not healthy.
