I saw slayer live twice. Still two of the best shows I've seen.

Way back, maybe late 80s or early90s, I read a story I think it was in Esquire, that 10 out of 10 kids who kill, love Slayer.
My favourite albums are South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss. I have a few others, but it has been a while since my last listen. I am suffering from road rage these days. Maybe it is time to get the cd player heated up Twisted Evil

Interesting. I read in several magazines that Seasons in the Abyss was the informal soundtrack of the Desert Storm. The COs would play it to get the troops all riled up before an assault.

I had mates in high school who listened to Slayer a lot, and loads of other hardcore metal bands. I never really saw the appeal, i was more into the "classic rock".
But as i have aged and mellowed in my lifestlye, i haver become an avid listener of this style. Sepultura'a Chaos A.D. and South of Heaven are frequently thrashed on my IPOD.

lionbrown - the production on most slayer records, while being modern, is very true to the dry, uneffected traditions of classic rock.

especially the albums recorded by rick rubin/andy wallace. really clean and crisp guitars, big drums, lots of low end. could be a reason why slayer grows on you... the sounds are just really good for your ears.

Saw Slayer live in Montreal about 14 years ago. They ended with 'Angel of Death' - the mosh pit consisted of the entire bottom/ground level - I've never seen anything like it!

Agreed, but Decade of Aggression is an awesome live 2ble CD!

How's their latest stuff?

What are the best albums? i have recently 'acquired' the complete discography.
I have heard South of Heaven, but i have a feeling Reign in Blood and the live stuff may be as good?
Did they produce crap music as they got older?

Seasons in the Abyss has always been my fave Slayer album because it has slow songs as well as Reign in Blood-esque fast ones - Dead Skin Mask, Expendable Youth, Skeletons of Society. I prefer slow metal.

I once heard an interview with King/Hanneman and was surprised to hear them say they're totally not in to Maiden.

they were more priest/venom fans. less bombast, more evil.
