| Doing some research on the Sager laptops, and actually they essentially ARE Alienware laptops--both Sager and Alienware lappys are made by Clevo, who is the original manufacturer. All Alienware and Sager do is clip their respective shells to the lappys, add your preferred hardware combo and then provide service. Just thought some would like to know... |

Sage or Sager?
Have you come across price comparisons on comparable models?
I'm curious to know how much extra the 'Alienware' brand sets one back.
(although to be fair I suppose one would also have examine warranties and customer satisfaction to be truly accurate in that regard). |

From reading the forums at discountlaptops.com, they seem to be on the ball as far as support goes, here's the link:
I clipped this from one of the threads, someone asking the history of Sager:
MV is correct. Sager is more of Clevo's #1 distributor in North America. They obviously market under their own name and sell to many others.
When you say the name "Sager," your friends my not recognize it because they sell a small percentage direct to the public and most of their in-house brand goes through dealer like DiscountLaptops.com. They also sell to FalconNW, Hypersonic, VoodooPC, WidowPC and many others. Alienware used to buy their systems from Sager, but now they deal directly with Clevo. Alienware carries one or two Clevo models, while Sager carries the entire line.
The owner of Sager is the man who designs the notebook for the NA market. He informs Clevo what features to put in a notebook and they follow his lead. All other Clevo resellers don't have much of a choice of what to offer, Sager calls the shots.
So, while your buddies may not recognize the name Sager, they may have heard of one of the many other Clevo resellers.
I hope that helps.

BTW, you might be interested to know that discountlaptops.com is releasing a line this month that will implement the nVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 GTX as a soundcard. NICE!
I was going to build a system when my budget permits it but, I am highly considering going for the Sager NP9890 now.
Check it out here. |
