Agreed, I'm living in Vancouver now, going to school and loving it. The mountains, the ocean, the ethnic food restaurants. Best place I've ever lived by far.

Too bad it's so expensive that the average person can't afford to pay rent or buy a house.

Basically my hometown. Great city in a number of respects, but the city has done it's best to make it a no-fun zone at night, and the suburbs are just like any other large American city. It deserves good marks but not top marks.

In the best city in the world you do not get your wine confiscated while walking to a friend's private residence to watch the fireworks.

It shouldn't take up to 2 hours to go from one end of the best city in the world to the other using public transportion when the same route would take 30 minutes by car.

I saw that show that Richard Quest did on CNN in Vancouver. That place looks beautiful. I bet there is great fishing there.

If only they could clean the place up a little and make it more eco-friendly... You know, make it look more like Korea.

Downside of Vancouver is the massive heroine problem. Anything that can be stolen in Vancouver gets stolen. Your car is guaranteed to be broken into once or twice a year.

Also, lots of the drug trade, lots of people supplementing their income selling pot, keeps property values very high.

And then the city could use a good subway system. They're trying with the Skytrain, of course...

But all 'n' all, helluva city.

Hi ya,

I'm thinking about moving to Vancouver next year.

Does anyone know if they have web listings of apartments for rent?

Here in Australia there is domain.com.au and realestate.com.au which are great sites for looking for apartments.

I lived in Van. 10 years ago and liked it, I imagine I'll like it again.

Thanks for the advice.

Cheers,

Chonbuk

Um, they do risk a terror attack. Or being hung out to dry by their own government if there's a disaster.

Maybe the BBC should re-write their article as:

Top 10 Western nice cities to live in if you are afraid of a terrorist attack.

Just doesn't make sense that Adelaide or Calgary would make the list over places like Honolulu and San Diego.

Great places to live until you get sick and your insurance runs out or you get pregnant and your state has sketchy parental leave laws/expensive daycare or you retire or you can't afford a safe gated community or you're a homosexual and want some basic rights or you want to send your kid to a good school that's not private and doesn't require you to live in a rich neighborhood or you want to send your children to university and not have to mortgage the house or you want access to an abortion clinic that won't be pipe bombed or you want to know you can use an ATM at midnight and not get shot...

Or a place you don't need a canoe to go down the street, or a place without armed soldiers on the street keeping black people from getting back into their homes, or until u need garbage pickup but the city has laid off 50% of its staff, etc etc etc etc etc
