Just a general question for everyone out there.....do most of you have Christmas off? My winter break is starting on the 29th of December (in the middle of the week, after Christmas). I was wondering if this is unusual?? Everyone else I know working in Korea starts their winter break on the 24th.
Thanks! |

All holidays between now and the end of January happen on the weekend, so no days off until the Lunar New Year.
Life in a small hagwon.
The next four months I'm calling "the long stretch", and am preparing mentally for it, sixteen weeks of Monday to Friday work without a single extra day or long weekend. |

It depends on whether you're in a hogwan or public school. In either event you'll get Christmas Day off. In the latter, there will be a long break following it, during which you might get a minimum one or two weeks off or perhaps more if you're lucky. |

I'm in a hagwon, I get 2 weeks off per year. One week in the summer and one week in the winter.
Our winter break is Dec. 24 - Jan. 2 or something like that. It seems like a cop out by your director to give you a week off starting Thursday so that you only get one weekend instead of two. |

Pay attention: Christmas Day and New Year's Day are both on Sunday. So it makes no difference. People in a lot of hagwons will work Mon-Fri. or Mon-Sat. as per usual. Not a stitch of difference this year. |

Holidays start on December 16 and finish sometime in early March (or thereabouts). |
