Can we brainstorm here and list some nice foreign friendly bars in areas of Seoul other than Itaewan or Hongdae.

First, let me define "Foreign Friendly" To me it means they allow you in. In Nowon I was with a friend and about 3 places in a row would not allow us in because we were not Korean.

A lot of us get into the Itaewan or Hongdae rut simply because we are not hat familiar with other places.

I was chatting with a friend who lives in Bundang, who told me about the Monkey and G Bar. That is too far for me to venture, but it is nice to know about such places.

Maybe there are some nice places near where you live that you can let us in on.

Unfortunately, where I live is void of places, outside of chicken hofs.

You must look and act like a focking idiot because
I have probably been in every bar in Itaewon with
absolutely no problems whatsoever.

I have a very close Korean friend who lives in Silim dong, and I have never had a problem getting into bars in that area. There are some good bars there as well. Actually this cropped up in another thread with Tiger Beer. I am sure he can let you know more about it (he used to live there). Other areas I know of are Sincheon (in Songpa-Gu), and Cheonho-dong (East Seoul line 5). I have never had a problem in any of those areas. That being said, most of the bars in the last two places I mentioned are hof bars, and "jazz" bars. I am not the greatest fan of those places. I miss a good pub.

Gangnam's alright, Jong-no-3-ga (AKA the neon monkey run), Sinchon, and I had a good night out around Konkuk university once.

In An-yang area, near college street, a lot of people like the Rockssin & chang's Techno Bar combo (Rockssin is the home of the infamous open mike night, and techno bar is really a college/expat hip-hop club & hookup place).

In sanbon, a lot of people get together at the Pirates bar.

is Fourex (XXXX) in Gang-nam still active/open, or have the yearly floods finally taken their toll on that place?

I went to a really cool back steer area in Suwon once, not too long ago, but don't know the area. midweek, it was all full of young collegiate schwingles. fun time. I DO remember it was behind one of the huge chain institutes; across the street was a nbig nightclub. The bars, restaurants, clubs & hotels were back behind the nightclub.

Regards,

G.

I keep going to Rockssin but it's always dead. When is this mysterious open-mike night? Like a tuesday or something?

Where is Chang's Techno Bar and is that it's name? Or is the name in Korean hangeul? I'll look for it next time because I've been to Anyang first street half a dozen times and haven't been able to find a single Korean dancing, except occasionally around a table in the "Black Music Hip Hip" club which is really a bar with no dance floor.

I think they were more nightclubs than they were bars. Seemed to be nice places I think it was a stroke of bad luck that night, we did find a nice, cozy basement bar.

I am near Nowon so if you can suggest some places other than Dragon bar, I would appreciate it. I don't mind Dragon Bar, just want some other venues.

That's what I was guessing. In my experience, it's the sort of places (and yeah, you can tell from the outside) that tend to have the unwritten "no-foreigners" rule. They might be old-geezer nightclubs or posh room salons (I'm not saying that's where MASH wanted to go), and if they posted big flashing "No Whities Allowed" signs, it wouldn't matter that much to me.
