I need some advice about my schedule. Last week, I was suppose to get off at 8pm on Friday due to leaving for a trip. I cleared it with my boss, since I only had one class during the last two hours of my day. One of the other teachers was suppose to cover my class, because I had covered her classes for her vacation.
On Thursday, makeup classes were schedule for the slots I didn't have classes as well as the slot where my coworker was suppose cover my class on Friday. I complained to my boss that I had asked for the time off. He ended up having someone (not the origional person) cover the class.
Seperately, my boss changed the schedules this month. He issued new schedules last week. On Friday's I'm schedule to come in at the same time as I do everyday, 3pm. My first (and only) class isn't until 5pm, it's a two hour class.
So, today after my boss left I was told that I am suddenly scheduled for six classes tomorrow. I'm not happy about it for two reasons. First, the lack of communication as to the change in schedule. Second, I did have plans for the evening and was going to leave around 8pm. (By the way the extra hours would not put me over the number contracted for the month)
Here's the question:
Do I
A) Lump it and just work the hours
B) Complain and work the hours
C) Tell them flat out I'm not scheduled after 7pm and won't teach the classes.
If anyone can let me know what they think, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.. |

First of all, that whole spiel about the changing schedules left me dizzy, you're going to have to describe it again with diagrams. Sounds like the other teacher can't cover your classes as agreed? Did you make the deal with him/her (directly) to cover your classes, or did you ask the boss to assign somebody to cover the classes? Because if its a teacher to teacher agreement and the other teacher stood you up, it's not the school's fault and you've got to suck it up.
OTOH if it's the school that's let you down, you've got to complain. I've gotten a lot of respect + leverage at previous jobs by complaining, making it absolutely understood that they were in the wrong, but since they no longer had any options I would be willing to do the job for them but just this one time. It's a decent bargaining position - you don't give them anything to criticize you for, but you basically force them to admit their own failure and promise to correct it. |

Yeah, I may have made it confusing. Last Friday, I had asked to get off two hours early, because I had a flight Saturday morning. Anyway it got fouled up at the last minute.
The weekly schedule was changed from last month to this month. When he issued new schedules, my Friday classes went from 5 down to 2. However, in addition to those two classes they also scheduled makeup classes (classes students missed as a result of Monday's holiday) and didn't bother to tell me until the last minute.
This is what truly pisses me off. I gave him the accountablity speech last week. Believe or not, I yell at him regularly for some of the bonehead things he does. I don't believe he's a bad guy, as one of the Korean teachers said today he's a little dense. |

He's playing dense. It works sometimes.
Last minute changes, especially if they disrupt our lives and well organized plans are the typical Korean way of expressing how much they care about us, our opinions and our mental well being.

Sounds like very typical hogwan BS. Decide for yourself, but I would ask just how much I like and value my job. If the answer is not that much, I'd refuse. If I generally liked the job, I'd put up with little nusainces like that. |
