So the answer to "WWJD?" is "Invade Iraq."

We just touched on Iraq being a religious war on another thread. They said I was full of bull when I said this. Hmmph.

Do you trust Abbas and the Palestinian information minister to tell the truth about this? I mean, 2+ years later and we hear it from them first?

When a majority of Americans these days doubt the Grand Canyon was created by a process other than God's hand, it's no surprise.

I had to laugh my ass off this morning when Bush was going on about how Osama tells suicide bombers that it's the path to heaven but he doesn't go along for the ride. You know, this coming from a guy who dodged service in 'nam and his VP had "other priorities" during 'nam. A guy who sends young Americans to their deaths when, you known, them Bush twins are quite capable of learning to drive a truck for the military in Iraq...

Yes, that's one consideration. Another consideration is that he might actually have said this, but that it was tuned towards eliciting a favorable response from a particular audience.

The only thing wrong with this is that Bush seems to claim that God is talking to him. However, if he were to say, 'My faith in God compels me to do X, Y, and Z,' then it wouldn't be so newsworthy.

Personally, I sort of doubt Bush's commitment to God.

God, I wish John McCain had won the nomination in 2000...

As I understand it, the particular brand of W's Christianity plays down the Bible. Rather, it encourages one to have one's own personal dialogue with God through prayer.

Haven't read the relevant news threads on this yet, but I believe that's how it works.

Durn. I wanted to start this thread. My title was going to be:

What do you call a man who hears the voice of god telling him to kill people?

President Bush!

Be afraid, be very afraid.

Bush's description of Al Qaida and the war on terror yesterday was accurate.

Actually this was discussed 2 years ago.

Imagine our surprise Wednesday to read in the Israeli paper Haaretz (online), that Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Abu Mazen, meeting recently with militants to enlist their support for a truce with Israel, said that, when they met in Aqaba, President Bush had told him this: " God told me to strike at al Qaeda and I struck them, and then he instructed me to strike at Saddam [ Hussein], which I did, and now I am determined to solve the problem in the Middle East. If you help me I will act, and if not, the elections will come and I will have to focus on them."

So who needs to find WMD or a link with al Qaeda when the orders come from The Highest Authority?

My understanding is that Bush had cocaine and alcoholism issues earlier in life, and that he never put these issues on the table (except, perhaps and probably, in private with this family). This makes sense, as he had political ambitions, and everyone was paying attn when Bork, for example, had his video rental history used against him as a Supreme Court nominee in fall 1987 and when Colin Powell's wife's history with depression nearly sank him in the 1990s just when people were speculating that he might run for President...

But, in any case, with Bush's wife's supporting him (she is very Christian, no?), he apparently went through the AA-style adiction substitution drill on his own: Jesus for whisky. And that appears to be the nature of his relationship with God.

I don't really care about religion too much, but I find it extremely disturbing that the federal bureaucracy would neither grant him the least sensitive security clearance nor even hire him to sort interoffice mail in the same bldg. in Washington if he were subjected to the same "background investigation" any one of us would be. Yet he can command the Foreign Service, the military, the intelligence community, FEMA, and Justice.

Then you should leave Korea and go fight for the freedom you think so important. Or do you have "other priorities" while your fellow Americans are doing the heavy lifting for you?
