Maybe you need to read this article to lighten your tone a little bit. Its about Wie's grandparents' village in South Korea, that raised $12,000 to support her in her golf training. This was a couple years ago, before she was famous, and way before she was rich.

I'm just shooting off my mouth even before reading the articles, and I haven't a clue what golf lessons cost. But it does surprise me somewhat that the daughter of a former Miss Korea (as was earlier mentioned), born in Hawaii, would genuinely need that $12,000. That, as sweet a gesture as it was -- and I mean no disrespect -- the villagers from the old country (with but a fraction the per capita GNP) would even feel it was really necessary to pass the hat in this situation. But I'm apparently wrong. Confused

Also makes me wonder how many other families are out there right now gutting their savings on the slim chance that their daughter will be signing $10 million endorsement deals some day. Given the grim consequences and near-certainty of failure, you'd assume very few. But my gut instinct tells me otherwise.

On a side note, we all know what make-up can do for a girl. But when was the last time you saw a 15-yr-old South Korean girl this built? Unless you assume it's all padding. (or is it just the awkward, twisted position that creates the .... effect?)

Rude Awakening
Wie's disqualification overshadows Annika's easy win
Updated: Sunday October 16, 2005 10:01PM

Michelle Wie talks to the media about being disqualified for an illegal drop during Saturday's play.

PALM DESERT, Calif. (AP) -- Michelle Wie's pro debut made her look like an amateur Sunday when she was disqualified for taking a bad drop from the bushes in the third round of the Samsung World Championship.

Talk about a rude welcome less than two weeks after turning pro.

First, Annika Sorenstam blew away the field to win by eight shots, even with a double bogey on the last hole.

Then, the 16-year-old Wie no sooner had signed for a 74 to finish fourth -- $53,126 -- that LPGA Tour officials took her out to the seventh hole to discuss a drop she took the day before.

Nearly two hours later, she was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard. Because Wie dropped the ball closer to the hole -- by 3 inches according to her, by about a foot according to the rules officials -- she should have added two strokes to her third-round 71.
