|
|
The contract that I have just been sent to sign has a clause that reads:
Quote: |
The Employee shall have moral obligation to help find a new teacher and do his or her best effort until he or she discontinues teaching... |
First of all, why on earth should I help them find a new teacher if I'm leaving? Chances are I'm leaving because I've found the conditions of employment unacceptable. They don't have to find me a new job if they decide to terminate the contract.
Second of all, everytime I've been told by a foreign teacher that they are helping their employers find a new teacher because they like their employer so much, it's been a load of crap, hasn't it?
(Aging appears to be a process of gradually having your illusions destroyed. Every time I think I have no more illusions, that I'm pretty smart and experienced....) |

Lately,I have seen contracts that offer the current teacher at the school a cash bonus if they find a new teacher for the school. |

I'd just agree but do nothing. Not something they can pin you down on, is it?
If you do decide to look for your replacement and actually find one you should receive 1mill finders fee. |

So if that teacher quits two months in, does he have to give the recruiting fee back? As well, does the teacher line up the airline ticket, Immigration papers, and other such work? |

exactly gord... I think it is more customary to ask and/or receive a couple hundred thousand won, certainly not the amount a recruiter would get. If you were to ask for a million won, why the heck would the hogwon owner use your "services" in the first place?? |

I think typical finders fee for teachers for finding a teacher is about 500,000 to 600,000 won. LIKE in Daegu I think is 600,000.
Talk to the school. Just say you will do what you can but no promises. You will help respond to emails and help look a bit. Maybe put a feel out in the future. But as to an acutal I will work and I will find you a new teacher is stupid. All the school I think can ask for is help in finding.
Also does this clause have anything to do with quiting. I looked at one that said I had to give 60 days notice and work until they found a replacement. Maybe it was along those lines.
Also drop the negative attitude about the school. You have not worked there yet and you already think you will leave the school earlier.

No Skippy, I do not already think I will leave early. However, I do recognize that as a possibility after all of the horror stories I have read about teaching in Korea, particularly ON THIS FORUM. Let's just say that I've been forewarned and I am looking at all possible eventualities.
So, that being said, the clause that I quoted specifically pertains to the possibility of my losing the job early and does not apply to the replacement that will come if I finish my contract. I'm a pretty tolerant person - and I can bend with the wind when necessary, so if I quit without completing my contract, it will be because I am living one of the horror stories that I have read and living in a situation that I wouldn't wish on some poor sap headed over to Korea for the first time. And that, in conclusion, is why I have a problem with this clause in my contract. |

well em, don't sweat it. If it gets really bad, there's always the midnight run. If they're going to f'k you over might as well do the same to them right?
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Once the time comes up, just write up an ad, have your boss put it on this website, and you're golden. Chances are you'll only have to read some e-mails and pass them along to your boss. It isn't exactly the most difficult thing in the world. This is also assuming your job is worth having . |

I think Em is also having a moral dillema.
I think see does not want to find a teacher for the school if the school turns out to be a hellish place. She does not want to sucker some teacher in to save herself.
But Em just put in the what you feel you need to, to help them look for a teacher.
