I am trying to eat healthy and was interested to find that a bowl of super noodles is the same in calories as 5 chicken strips from KFC!?! That seems like a huge amount of calories for a simple noodle.
So how bad is Raymeon? My co-teachers inhale the stuff but it tastes awfully supernoodly to me Anyone know any stats on it? |

Well, considering that one container of Ramyeon contains about 14 grams of fat, which is the same as a cheeseburger from McDonald's, about 1,600 mg of sodium, 70 percent of a person's recommended daily intake, and lord knows how many and what types of of preservatives are thrown in there, I would assume that it's pretty unhealthy.
Some ajummas told me not to eat it because of friends who died from stomach cancer afer eating Ramyeon everyday. Koreans are known to have higher rates of stomach cancer than a lot of other places, and while I wouldn't contribute this to Ramyeon as opposed to other intestine ravaging foods, I do think it ranks pretty high as a factor for people who ingest it on a daily basis. |

what djsmnc said. instant noodles are generally made with palm oil or other tropical oils - so not only is it fat, it's the BAD cholesterol fats that your doctor warns you about. this is true for most of the instant noodles available back home, i can't see why it'd be different for ramyeon.
it's clear the stuff is bad for you. first time i heard about instant noodles being bad for you must have been in the 1980s. why they haven't retooled the formula is beyond me... the stuff tastes so good. |

Plus the leading Korean companies have been known to use RADIATION on the noodles to preserve them.
Imported ramyeon in the U.K. from Korea has been investigated by health officials as a result. |

There's a new brand of cup noodle available that has only about 150 calories (compared to the 450+ calories of regular ramen). Not sure about the other nutritional values, but it might be a good alternative for the OP.

Avoid the flavour sachet, and you'll improve your chances for a long life. The stuff gives me a rash. I flavour my noodles by stirring in a spoonful of marmite. Yummy! |

Or just pour in half or a quarter of the packet. It tastes the same and you're probably cutting the sodium content by quite a bit. |

I got so sick of ramyen after my first week here. Okay, it's great to have a snack for less than a dollar, but I never want to eat one ever again. They suck IMO.
What's the stuff in restaurants like btw? better presumably? |

screw ramyon. eat rice noodles instead. i take hot veggie broth and then throw in some frozen costco veggies (carrots, broccoli etc) and then add rice noddles. it takes about 5 minutes to make and it's way healthier! if you're at work you can do it in the microwave. |

the same as what you'd cook at home. pretty much. they add an egg sometimes. sometimes some processed cheese. nothing that would make it more nutritious... |

If you plan on eating cup noodles in your home, you'd do well to soak them once in warm water before boiling them in the soup which you will consume. Soaking the noodles gets rid of some of the naughty oil. |

Long-distance hikers eat them because they are one of the most calorie dense, lightweight foods out there. That alone should tell you that normal, even moderately active people should not be eating them on a regular basis. |

Yet they're far from filling, aren't they? A cup of noodles does not a meal make. They do, however, contain fewer calories than a Big Mac (also a pretty skimpy meal, but people tend to accessorize with fries and a Coke).
Yet I suppose if you're going to eat fried noodles, you should make a meal of it, instead of eating it as a snack, which, if it becomes a regular habit, will make you a portly lad/lass in no time.

As I suspected they were bad, didnt realise they were on par with maccy d's produce though!!
I've been pretty good this week, however a fish a day at school means i've been eating wraps at home which isnt great. That said I've been hitting the gym a lot and no eating between meals seems to paying off no end.
I find the meals over here are quite superb for the health concious (especially if like me, you cant stomach a good 80% of whats on offer!)
