Nations?

There are five North American national states: Mexico, USA, Canada, France, and Denmark.

Interesting concept, to label parts of the continent in this way, and probably a good prediction of things to come. Our descendants will think of country borders as a quaint 19th-century idea.

To call the entire northwest an empty quarter is either a strange definition or completely preposterous. Alberta has oil, ranching, farming, high tech, and diamonds. Saskatchewan isn't included as breadbasket?

Newfoundland certainly isn't New England (more like new Ireland). It isn't even new-- St. John's bills itself as the oldest (European founded) city in North America, dating from settlers in the early 1500s. Miss da rock.

You're forgetting Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Panama, and a few others that arent coming to me right now. And I don't know if island nations count, but there's Cuba and some others.

What is this based on??? I am from Seattle, and i would say our culture is comparable to Vancouver and Portland, but god, no way in hell can you put San Francisco or LA with us. and I have never been to Anchorage, but it looked to be part of the same group. I don't think they would go for that. Who came up with this? Interesting idea, but I think there should be a few more groups.

No, it isn't. But "Mesoamerica" includes Mexico and all of Central America. That's how first Teotihuacan and then the Aztecs ruled it in preContact times anyway.

Actually, Anchorage would fit very well with Seattle. In fact, the rest of the state refers to Anchorage as "Seattle North" or "Los Anchorage." Laughing

What's this map based on anyway? Climate? Culture? Economic interdependence?

Don't forget about the Conch Republic, aka Margarittaville, aka Key West.

This reminds me of some "racialist" proposition to divide the US into 10 different racially segregated nations.

I believe it was Christian Identity (no real relation to Christianity, these are Timothy McVeigh related types) and I believe it was called the ten percent plan, based on the Aryan types getting 5 states. (Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and I think Oregon.

Anyway, I was always curious what they thought these ten racial groups were. I don't think I can name 10. Um.. White, black, hispanic, asian, indian, hawaiian, um... Irish? Mormons? Texans?

Anyway, I was curious if anyone out there could enlighten me on the particulars of this odd little theory. Also why anyone would choose those five states as the foundation of their homeland. (Not to disparage your states if your from there. The little bit of Wyoming I experienced was gorgeous, never been to the others.

Thanks.

Uh-oh. One more thing for Americans and Canadians to fight about: St. Augustine, Fl. says the same.

Everything that isn't wisconsin should be called the empty quarter. We might let Illinios be seperate so we can have our arch enemy singled out for conquest.
