The occassion of this poll is the new Bond announcement, and the exciting news that they're remaking the original novel, Casino Royale.
So, who's your favorite actor and why?
I'll start: Connery. He was the original. He captured the original 1960s Cold War context.
He had *beep* Galore. |

I watch Moore with a stupid grin on my face, half in stoned amusement and half in disbelief that they let him get away with this for twelve years. I vote Moore for all the wrong reasons.
But still, he got off with Melina Havelock, and you can't knock that.

Pierce Brosnan wasn't bad. And he had the best chicks, you can't deny it. Michelle Yeoh, wow. |

I grew up on Moore, and so Brosnan seems like the best replacement, and due to age, the best overall.
Connery seemed a little off to me when I finally watched the old Bond films (when VCRs exploded onto the scene in the eighties).
All three of them would seem weird playing "bad guy" roles. That's because they have a natural positive charisma, or something like that.
The newest candidates for the next Bond mostly seem lacking in that regard, are just as naturally possible "bad guys". |

You left off David Niven, et al., (perhaps purposely) from the original Casino Royale. Movie was a farce and not done by the legendary filmmaker Albert "Cubby" Broccoli. Really a toss-up between Connery and Moore. Both were good for different reasons. Voting for the hottest Bond girl would be tough, as well. |

The challenge of playing Bond is twofold--walking the line between urbane gentleman and cold-blooded alcoholic assassin, and not descending into self-parody. Moore fails on both counts. And eventually he was just too old and too fat to be convincing in any way. |

I tried to create a poll for hottest Bond girl, but this site will not permit so many poll choices.
I would have no reservations choosing the Italian woman from Thunderball, just so we're straight on that.
Maybe Barbara Bach, and Lois Chiles made me hesitate for a moment. But I'll take Luciana Paluzzi over any Bond girl, I don't care how much older than me she is either. |

Connery, hands-down. Moore made the role his own, and had the advantage of bigger-budgeted films, but even Connery's 'worst' Bond (You Only Live Twice, Diamonds Are Forever) films are better than most of the subsequent films.
Moore just stayed around too long. |

The new 007 has been appointed -> Daniel Craig.
I wonder how he will turn out. |
