Maybe this has already been covered somewhere but it caught me out on the way back from Germany this weekend and I've not seen it posted. Slap me down if I'm wrong.
Everyone entering Korea now has to complete a customs form - a bit like the US one (no, I am not carrying illegal drugs, pornography or firearms, honest guv). Although I guess it'll get easier in future, this seemed to catch a lot of the Koreans by surprise and I had to fight my way through to the forms after passport control.
Do it on the plane and save yourself some time. |

New policy initiated a couple weeks ago. So yeh, it would be catching regular fliers offguard. |

Korean Customs is introducing compulsory declarations in preparation for APEC (dunno why, note the conference is in Busan, but passengers travelling by ferry don't have to fill it in... ) (Yay! no hassles for me coming back from Fukuoka weekend!)

September 22, 2005 Travelers to Korea will have some additional paperwork to fill out before they are allowed into the country, the Incheon International Airport Customs Office announced yesterday.
Beginning Oct. 1, arriving passengers will have to fill out detailed customs declaration forms to present to inspectors. The new procedures are a part of security preparations for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Busan in November.
The written declaration must be filled out by all visitors and flight crews, and will be required at all the nation's international airports. Passengers and crew arriving by sea will not be affected.
The rules now require only persons bringing in goods in excess of duty-free allowances to fill out the declarations. But at least from Oct. 1 to Nov. 21, all visitors will have to complete the paperwork. |

When I came arrived back to Busan Port from Fukuoka a couple of weekends ago, I filled out a customs declaration form in English, but it was less detailed (1 side to fill out). The one Koreans were given (2 sides) was the same as what I was given arriving at Incheon Airport on August 31st. |

The one I filled in was two sides. I had last arrived internationally at Incheon on the 9th July, but I arrived into Gimpo on the 16th August and there was no form then.
Ech, I don't mind too much (though I do wonder if the copy of Bild I was carrying counted as porn) but it was a little like feeding time at the zoo at baggage collection for a while. |
