Hello,

I'm seeking to buy a new keyboard. Any suggestions?

Many Thanks.

Nakwon arcade near Insadong should be your first stop. It's the musical instrument area of the city

World Cup Stadium (I forget the name of the precise store) has keyboards and horrendously expensive elec pianos. There's not much choice though, although you can go along and play them. I'm gonna get an accoustic guitar from there. I play keyboard myself and the keyboards they do have are standardly-good and reasonably-priced IMO.

I found the Yamaha DGX-205 for just under 500,000 won. This is what I planned to pay. What do you think? Can I find a much better deal?

Seems rather pricey to me, at least on the basis of what it looks like.

One of the crappy things about Korea is that all local music stores died and went to Nakwon.

It means, as in my example, if you want a simple guitar string retainer, price 300 won, you have to get on the frickin subway and travel to Nakwon to get one!!! Curses!!!

When my wife searched on the internet for a store that sells guitar strings she got one hit for the whole of Gangnam!!! It's pathetic.

This zoning of stores hurts the customer and allows unabated price-fixing.

Do a search for "nakwon". There have been many threads about the place.

I'm assuming this is the big music market by Insadong, in which case you can get off at Jonggak (Line 1) or Anguk (line 3) or Jongno 3-ga (lines 1,3 & 5). It's right in between those three... though I think Jongno 3-ga is the closest.

Here is a map of Nagwon:

Go out Exit #5.

Eamo, there is a music shp at Yatap Station just east in the big dept store building before you go up the hill. It's on the first floor. Friendly people.

Thanks Harpeau. I may use it in the future.

Last time I went to Nakwon though, I bought 5 sets of guitar strings!!! That's enough to do me for years......I don't play much these days....shame on me....
