Play Petals Around the Rose
Quote: |
The name of the game is Petals Around the Rose. The name of the game is important. The computer will roll five dice and ask you to guess the score for the roll. The score will always be zero or an even number. Your mission is to work out how the computer calculates the score and become a Potentate of the Rose. |

Let me know if you figure it out. |

It's a great game (also known as Chairs Around the Table). I used to play it with my psych students in a lesson on perception. They loved it--but only after they figured it out. |

Wow, you're a psych prof! Cool. Your students must get a blast out of your observations and assumptions on their English language slips of the tongue.
How'd you explain the best way to figure out the brainteaser(Petals around the Rose) to your students without giving it away? |

Not a prof, just a high school teacher.
I told them that the brighter they are the more likely it is they will have trouble changing their perceptions so as to be able to look at the dice as simply as a little kid. Then we'd start to play on the floor. I'd remind them to think like a kid. Think like a kid. Eventually they'd get it. |
