This will be my last post here.
I'm fucking disilluioned with Politics & very disillusioned with the politics on here.
When I was growing up, the left was for men, it was about unions & fighting effete upper class scum.
Now the left is effete. It's about arrogant over educated guilt ridden idiots who look down on the people they're claiming to help.
Unions not Greenies, atheists not buddhists you faggot idiots.
Jimmy Hoffa is ten times the man Al Gore will ever be, you self righteous idiots.

Well, I'm glad you're able to leave here without any sort of subjective bias clouding you judgement.
Best of luck to you.

Hmmm, beep idiots, huh? Your little rant is incredibly simplistic and reductionist. I happen to be a Buddhist leftist Teamster former rig driver with blue collar credentials up the old whatever. I dare say, this coming from a wet behind the ears English teacher in Korea stretches the concept of ironic.

Imagine my surprise.
Any moment now you'll yank my chain again and tell me that a fag is actually a cigarette...

Where I come from, 'Wally' is just a name.

Emu:

Perhaps your post would garner some more interesting discussion if you actually gave us examples showing how left-wingers on this board are representative of the phenomenon you describe.

I myself am not much of a "greenie" fan, and I'll take atheism over Buddhism any day. And on that note, have there actually been any posts where some left-wing Buddhist criticizes atheism? Can't say I recall any.

You're quite right. Due to the fact that they have basically lost the argument on the economy, they are left touting the wonders of 'multiculturalism', and defending reactionary sexist imams who support suicide bombings. The Left used to be a noble movement of the working class and enlightened middle class, fighting for the rights of those in poverty and at the bottom of the ladder. It was the movement of Keir Hardie, Bevan and Wilson. God knows what they would make of the anti-Western, morally relativistic bunch of effette middle class twats who populate it today.

Names, dates, places and links, if possible. When did this happen? Who defended and what words did they use while doing so? Where did you read it? An "unbiased source?" I doubt any of it, offhand.

You can defend the right of people who disagree with you to say what's on their mind - this is far and away from defending the person or their opinions. I think this distinction might be too subtle for you ... I'm willing to wait until you make good on this claim, though.

We all know you wouldn't say something if it wasn't true and you could show it ... right?

Google, 'Ken Livingstone' and 'Yusuf Qaradawi' and you'll get all the information you need.

Tony Blair has been getting advice from 'community leaders', including some who are virulently anti-semitic. The leader of the MCB, the largest 'moderate' muslim group in the UK, stated of Salman Rushdie that 'death is too good for him'. He's been a regular at Downing Street for a few years now.

Here is another example:-

Mr Thomson is no marginalised nutcase. For he has been appointed by the British government to advise it on how to tackle, ahem, Muslim extremism. And his views have hardly been concealed. For the story also reveals that in 1994 he published a book in which he claimed that Jews and Freemasons had conspired to control the Middle East and now controlled the governments of Europe and America; that the Nazis were a Christian backlash against the Jews; that the Jews had no right to live in the Holy Land because they were not a pure race and therefore not true biblical Israelites; that Saddam Hussein was used as an excuse for American troops including thousands of Jews to occupy Saudi Arabia; and that Hollywood and the international media are controlled by Jews whose aim is to re-educate Muslims.

Again, radical muslims at the heart of the Labour government.

Quote:

As the elected mayor of London, Livingstone embraced Qaradawi (physically) and lauded him as a 'moderate' muslim, despite his support for suicide bombings and crushing homosexuals underneath walls. When gay and Jewish groups protested this, he called them 'Islamophobes' (that old chesnut!). He repeatedly praised Qaradawi as a moderate and defended him from his critics.

I understand defending the right of people to speak their mind, but inviting them to London and giving them a platform and a veneer of legitimacy is going too far. However, this is what some on the left have done time and time again. Moreover, it's the usual leftist hypocrisy, because Ken would never imagine giving right wing homophobes and bigots like the BNP such a platform. But muslims, come on down!

This probably doesn't happen in the States to such a great extent, except on the far-left, due to the fact that such a close alignment with a bearded Jihad supporter would probably be electoral suicide after 9-11, but in Europe the bizarre affair betweent the left and intolerant muslim groups is obvious, and the silence of the left about the sexism and intolerance within much of the muslim community is deafening.

I think there is a place for Keynesian economics, but the trend since the 1980s has been for less state ownership and less regulation. Thus, the old school socialists were forced to take their battle against capitalist society into the schools, universities, and the media, and in this they have been largely successful.
