it is my understanding that before any kind of building is built here,
they dig a deep hole in the ground and put in a septic tank.
is this true? is this only true of small cities?
also, I think they pump out the septic tank once a month or it will overflow. am I right? |

Where did you hear this?
I have no idea if this is true or not but I will say that I'd be extremely surprised if this were the case.
How many times have you seen waste dispoal trucks driving around?
How many times have you seen one emptying a septic tank?
If every building ah ad a septic tank, and every septic tank needed emptying once a month- don't you think you'd see a lot more than you do? |

It is partly true.
New buildings are built with septic tank storage in the basement but it is connected to the system and is automatically pumped out slowly.
This is supposedly to permit a constant supply to the sewage works rather than highs and lows which could overly tax the system.
Older buildings are connected also, although some do still have the pits pumped out into trucks. The trucks are normal looking tanker trucks but generally unmarked. |

As far as I know septic tanks are only used in isolated parts of the country where a home isn't connected to a main sewage pipe. As a rule they wouldn't be used in cities or small towns. |
