Okay, so I've decided that the contract from Korea looks the best? It's offering 2mil won/mth, 18,000/hr O.T., 10 vac. days, 5 days emerg. leave, 3 sick days. Any comments? What do you all think?...good, bad or simply ugly? The contract from China is only 4000RMB/mth (not so good)The other one from China, not worth mentioning.
By the way, has anyone ever heard of Lincoln School in Goyang, Korea? If you have, what are they like? |

4000 RMB is actually a great offer from China ! University I presume? (Just not good for sending money home, if that's your plan.) Curious, where in China would you be working if you accepted that job?
Have you talked to any of the present or past staff? It's really hard to go by what's written in a contract. What's your gut feeling? Can you bump up either of the offers? What kind of hours will you be teaching? What material will you be teaching? How many students in your class? Adults? Kids? There's lots of questions you should be asking... do you have any more info? |

The school is in Mianyang, China. I just received this contract so, I haven't spoken to anyone about the conditions. How would I go about this because if I ask them for names and contact information, how can I be sure it really is an ex or current teacher? It's teaching conversational English but It doesn't say the age of my students. Would asking for 6000RMB be out of line? Has anyone done this? |

That's probably a better question for the China forum
Never heard of Mianyang (not that my geography of China is very hot). I think, depending on what province you're in, there's a limit to what the Education Board will allow you to be paid... some kind of salary capping. It also depends if you're working for private institute or public university. I taught some conversation classes at a Chinese Uni... over 60 students! Not much of a conversation, eh? The hours were great though, 5 x 1:40 classes per week.
You can never be sure of anything. But if you start getting that awful gut twisty feeling, I suggest running a mile. Ask them for contacts for their current and ex foreign teachers. If they won't give you any, let that be a BIG sign.
I'll PM you with some more info as I don't want to tie this thread up with China stuff. |
