|
|
Hi folks, I'm a recent university graduate looking to teach English in Korea. I realize that I certainly face obstacles as my parents are of East Indian Descent. I was born in Canada, and I am a native speaker with a typical north-american accent.
I was wondering if anyone had any leads or knew of any recruiters or schools who have hired or are accepting Asian-Canadians?
I have applied and given my resume to several recruiters and individual schools and agencies but have got no replies or offers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! |

| Being a whitey I can only guess but. I'd think the silver lining is that if a school hires that should up the chance that they're a good place that cares at least as much about education as profits. |

Why come? You know they will be rude and stupid to you. They will stare and make unkind comments and talk about you. Don't come..you have been honestly warned. Koreans don't change....and you won't change them. If you come, then remember it is for the money and live with the problems until you can go home.
It really won't be a good experience. |

why come?
For me it isnt all about the money, I want the experience.
Why come?
I know that most koreans arent wankers like most of these recruiters and hagwon honchos. Ive been there twice and I have a good number of friends there
Why come?
If they really dont want me, then id expect them to put up a barrier in the sky. I know that its gonna be hard to get in, but like someone said above, whoever does hire me will hire me for my experience and wont see me as Johnny Blue eye Blonde hair Won sign
Why come?
Cuz I sure as hell wont get discouraged by someone as negative as you. |

| i would suggest joining some kind of program, like EPIK, i believe they are hired by qualifications, not pictures, by people back home. I am not sure though. then the school that receives you can't turn you down because they are stupid and racist... |

I'm a Canadian of east indian descent currently teaching in South Korea so if I can land a job here then so can you. Don't give up! Yes there is racism but it's no different from what you've experienced back home.
PM me if you want to know which recruiter I used. |

One of my occassional drinking buddies is an East Indian from Washington DC.. he's had quite a few teaching jobs here in Korea over the last 3-4 years since I've known him.
He seems to love Korea.. he keeps going back to the States after every contract, but gets pulled back here for whatever reasons just like the rest of us. |
