I have a Halloween party to go to tomorrow, and I can't think of any good ideas for a costume I can make or buy with what's around me.

So far this is the best I can come up with...

Your picture doesn't appear. Well, I'll try to address your question with some easy costumes that don't require specialty accessories.

1. Cowboy/Cowgirl: blue jeans, jean jacket and flannel or other plaid shirt. indeed almost any patterned button-up shirt will do. add wide-brimmed hat (almost any type), toy gun, and perhaps use a bead and a shoelace to rig up an imitation bolo tie. All items can be picked up at wal*mart which is open 24 hours.

2. Ghost: either try the stereotypical sheet with two holes in it, or wear all white and color your hair and face white with makeup.

3. Zombie: tear up or cut up some old clothes to appear as rags. Paint face green or grey if possible. Be creative. Walk around like a zombie and moan and groan.

4. Cat Burglar -- make a hamburglar-type mask from a black scarf or cut cloth from a black teeshirt, two holes for eyes. wear all black clothes, gloves of any type and maybe a winter hat. sling a sack over one shoulder and perhaps wear a few tools on your belt.

5. Flasher -- trenchcoat, shoes, socks, and your most humorous underpants. dark sunglasses and hat with brim pulled low.

6. Spy -- as above but add clothing under the trenchcoat and maybe a mysterious weapon or camera

7. Caesar / Antony / Cleopatra -- make toga or toga-dress out of bedsheets, and a sort of laurel crown out of a houseplant or buy one from the florist. Add a snake for cleopatra.

8. Pirate -- consider a baggy white shirt (think Seinfeld's puffy-shirt), a vest, baggy trousers and tall boots. Add an eyepatch (make one or buy it in the halloween section at wal*mart) and toy sword. Make a sort of "do-rag" out of a hanky rather than spend time searching for the perfect hat. Use a coat hanger to make a fake "hook" hand. don't be afraid to make the outfit colorful.

9. Your Opposite -- if you and your friends are hippies, put on a suit and tie and polish your shoes and call yourself a "White-Collar Criminal". your buddies will all have fun pretending to be afraid of such a monster. similarly, if you and your friends are hard-working contributors to society, dress as a "Hippy"

10. Cross Dress -- A fine way for a man to make a huge impact with minimal effort. For women it's a little harder to "dress like a man" and have anybody even notice you're in costume.

Is that a new slang term for "I'm going to sell drugs at the party"?

One of my more imaginative kids once came as "Ramyun Man". He had his mother and older sister tape packages of ramyun all over his body. He had all kinds of superhero moves and poses to show us, which would have likely been more impressive if other, far hungrier kids had not attacked him, ripping all the packages off of him and eating the contents. (Luckily, he found it hilarious and kept yelling and giggling, "Stop eating Ramyun Man!")

This went over very well for me one year. All you need is:

Three pillows, just spray paint them brown. Tie them to your body make three uh whatever you call them.

A Santa hat.

Say Hidie Ho often with a silly wave.

You can add face paint to look like him if you want too. That might be going to far.

Last year Seattle's weekly The Stranger had this hilarious feature on halloween costumes. I wish The Stranger still had the article up but I can't find it. There is a photo of the best one in BoingBoing:

Put on my girlfriend's gray sweatsuit, wore a sweater around my neck, and put on a super-big visor with the words "Superܸ" on it. Thought I would get beat up for wearing it but got a lot of laughs and pictures taken.

Lame idea,
but my frat bro and his girlfriend showed up one year
with white T-shirts painted with "COSTUME." Like a
generic product.

Lamer still, I & gf were the mouse brothers.

Easiest, quickest "costume" I've ever used:

Dress just as you would any other day of the year, but when you get to the costume party, be really obnoxious, make enemies the whole night, swear at everyone, make fun of their costumes and belch a lot. When they ask you WTF is your problem and why didn't you come in costume, tell them, "Why don't you F---OFF! I'm RUDE MAN!" Mad Or no, you say, "You've seen The Exorcist? Yeah, well I'm possessed by the spirit of RUDE MAN! So F--- OFF!" Mad

A guaranteed hit.

You could put some red lipstick on different parts of your body and drape a leg and/or arm from a mannikin and go as "The Remains".
