There does seem to be a lot of us Maritimers here. To answer your question, the economy in the Maritimes is bad. It always has been. Go to Toronto, Calgary or Seoul, you will find Maritimers.

I wonder what the population of our region would be if we all stayed home?

Hmm, English teachers in Korea don't have babies they cannot afford, don't have a party everyday with salsa music blasting and do not raise the rate of car theft.
