I'm reading Japanese literature in translation right now, such as stuff by Haruki Murakami and Banana Yoshimoto. It's really good, and is a nice change from what I normally read. I want to read some Korean stuff in translation. Anyone know what's good and cool?

"What's good and cool?"

This season-

Hot:

1. Waking up a one night stand and screaming "The kitchen is on fire."
2. When in a restaurant- Insist that you do your own dishes.
3. Filling wheelbarrows with stuffed toys and parading around the city in a purple robe yelling "Bring out your dead."
4. Stopping coitus to pick scabs off your legs.

Not:

1. Clapping and yelling "encore" at the end of an execution.
2. Smoking cigars through your nose.
3. Telling your boss that you are a "Section 8" while hiding under the "Cloak of invisibility" which look suspiciously like the curtains from your house.
4. Claiming that you are the heir to the throne of Denmark, while simultaneously hitting yourself over the head with a cricket bat.

i tried to get my hands on korean literature when i got here. the sad truth is that a lot of it just isn't translated. i even emailed a prof of korean lit at a major uni to get more info, and that's basically what he said.

your best bet is to go to seoul selection in gwanghwamun. they have a good selection of the limited translated korean lit out there. i think if your order is over 40,000 won, the shipping is free. if you don't want to order online, you can go to the store. anyway, it's:

good luck!

Their selection looks good enough to keep me busy. Thanks.
