Is there any problem bringing a Korean spouse to Canada (just visiting) through the United States? Tickets going through Detroit seem cheaper, but is it an extra hassle/anything we need to know about?

TIA.

You do have to pass through American customs even if you're bound for Canada. I suspect maybe she would have to have a tourist visa.

As far as I know, even transferring planes in the U.S. requires a bit of legwork for a Korean. They need a tourist visa and must be interviewed by the U.S. consulate/embassy, possibly more than once.

Quick response - without a tourist visa she cannot enter the US even in transit to Canada. Best to go via Vancouver or Toronto. Perhaps you can get better prices routing via Taiwan or Japan rather than direct from ICN to Canada.

Anecdotally it seems that many people are starting to shun USA due to the problems with getting even a visit visa, let alone a student visa. In the long run, this will not be good for the economy: higher eductaion, tourism, inward investment etc.

Of course, those intended to be deterred by the measures are not deterred and will not be deterred.
