Moran? Is that part of Busan?

If you are in Busan.. then Deokchondong (as far as I know) has the largest dog market in Korea.. not sure if its still the case.. but its about 1km long of dogs in cages and dog parts on tables to be sold along the street (and a few rows back).

My understanding is that the dog markets are off-limits to foreigners. But you can certainly try.

Bollox. I've been there several times. What, you think they have guards turning whitey away?

That was exactly what I'd read on a Korean animal association's website. I hadn't been looking for a dog market, just something I read once and remembered.

I accidently stumbled upon the one in Moran last year and a guy got all in my face asking me what I was looking for and wouldn't let me go any further. So, yeah sometimes there are guards turning whitey away!

Guards? Or police? I'd just keep walking if it was some security guard, and pretend I don't understand Korean. Play stupid. Do security guards have any authority here, really? What's he going to do? Knock you down? Why aren't foreigners allowed, anyway? To protect the butchers from protesters?

I thought Korea was a free country. Can you imagine if we had signs back home baring Koreans from certain areas?

i'm curious to see if any foreigners here have bought, taken home and cooked dog meat.

i find the process 100% repugnant but it would be more interesting than the gaggle of nerds who go to a bosintang restaurant and go "dude, i ate dog!"

i mean, if you're going to do it, grow a pair and cook the shit yourself.

Or raise it yourself, kill it yourself, cook it yourself, and then eat it.

you can go to the moran market and see the dogs. there are no guards. or atleast not lately. maybe at another time there were. i take pictures. they don't like it but you can tell them to f**k off if you like, as i do sometimes. or you can laugh and say its ok and you eat dog and they sometimes think its cool and let you take photos. either way tell them to buzz off and you can do whatever you want. also dont forget the dog pet section with large animals in tiny cages and starved animals tethered to owners chairs.

When I've been to the dog markets in Busan, I just start chatting to the guys there, keeping it nice and happy - they have no problems with photos after that...

Perhaps telling them to f off is not the best way in getting photos.
Aggressive confrontational tactics aren't always the best.
