I was out and about last night having the time of my life in the grand ol' wonderland that is......Itaewon.

Anyway, I was walking home and a small gaggle of MPs and their KNP escort stopped me and asked for my ID..... Confused

I have to admit, I do sport short hair, but that has nothing to do with trying to be a soldier (trying to be like Bruce Willis.....now that is a different story Wink ).

Being the nice guy that I am, I showed them my ID card and they went on their merry way to harass other passers-by who they think might be suspectible soldiers.

My rant is, why is it that if a person is;

1. A white male
2. Have short hair
3. mildly young looking

people, Korean and other, take them as being soldiers?

I know, i know...its too early to talk about this, but they took 5 minutes of my precious time last night when I was rushing home to watch "Sex and city" and "Queer Eye for the straight guy"

I missed the first show... Crying or Very sad

I can think of so many worse things to be mistaken for in this country that it's not even funny.

Actually, it is refreshing to see a new complaint. One of the common ones here is the US exploits its ethnic minorities by keeping them unemployed so they are forced into the military.

Have you considered a SCREW THE ARMY tattoo for your forehead? Granted it's a permanent solution to a temporary problem...but worth a thought.

True, but open to possible misinterpretation. The soldiers might leave him alone but the sailors might start hitting on him. Not a significant improvement.

Oh I'd love to have that situation. My hair is almost short enough right after I get it cut. With a hat I'd definitely look like GI material.

"Yup, sarge, I'm out after curfew ... and ya knowa what? I don't give a *beep*! ... yeah that's right ya heard me right the first time ya baby-killing *beep*!" etc., etc., with my best American accent.

Why not just have fun with them?

I actually thought that - until I read that he was in itaewon.

Why would the British Members of the Parliament be in Itaewon asking for someone their ID?

Sorry just makes no sense.. hence my asking.

I have sideburns, so they never mistake me for a soldier. I even tried to fool a drunk military scout once, to no avail.

Oh, and it's worth mentioning that I usually wear a bomber jacket and steel-toed boots, which you'd think would raise more suspicion on me.

Third, it's worth mentioning I avoid Itaewon like the clap.

With recent bad publicity I would rather be mistaken for a GI than a ESL teacher. Laughing
