Every year a couple of tourists get lost and die - usually from thirst and/or heat stroke. They break all the basic survival rules .... ie. they don't inform someone of their travel plans. They don't carry spare fuel or food and especially spare water. If their car breaks down they leave it and try to walk out. In short they break all the basic survival rules.

I've heard that Japanese tourists are really bad for this. They're so used to a careful, safe, managed environment, even in what passes for nature in Japan, that they can't conceive of an place where your safety isn't 100% ensured.

Is it general ignorance that we attribute to Americans, or just ignorance regarding Canada?

I have to say, I've met some smart Americans and some retarded Canadians, but when north of the border, a lot of Americans' I.Q.s seem to plummet.

My favourite was this one family in a van (and all kinds of ski equipment up top) with NY licence plates. The guy pulls over to the side of the road (this is in Kingston) and in the middle of the hottest day in the summer asks me:

"Which way to Bamff?"

Loved #19, by the way.

The German tourist missing here has been found .... dead!
Apparently she fell into a gorge.

The big question is ......... There were only 20 people in her group so why did it take so long for anyone to notice she was no longer with them?
