Zundel Charged With Hate Crime
The Globe and Mail
7-19-5

BERLIN (AP) -- German prosecutors said Tuesday that they have charged far-rightist Ernst Zundel with incitement to racial hatred.

Mr. Zundel, who was extradited from Canada earlier this year, is accused of spreading anti-Semitism and denying the Holocaust, partly in texts distributed via the Internet, prosecutors in the southwestern city of Mannheim said.

Mr. Zundel is "known internationally as a leader of the right-wing scene," the prosecutors said in a statement listing 14 cases of alleged incitement to racial hatred.

He was arrested in March on his arrival in Germany after losing a long legal battle to head off his extradition. He had been detained in Toronto since 2003 under Canadian anti-terrorism laws. Both Canadian and U.S. authorities rejected his applications for citizenship.

Well, thankfully here's someone with a more tolerant perspective. Oh yes, and unlike yourself, i don't believe Zundel has ever called for anyone's execution or murder.

Rich.

I must admit that I am involved with the Pls solidarity movement for more than a few years and I find it shocking that it is always 'socialist Jews' who try to decide who has the right to talk and who must be silenced. I ask myself what stands behind this clear tendency to dominate every possible discourse ... This 'freedom of speech' issue is one big nonsense!!! In fact, I want to hear Netanyahu as much as I want to hear Zundel. If you want to win you better know your enemy inside out! I must admit that I learned a lot from reading Netanyahu and Zundel is on my future reading list. Following what I read so far about Zundel, he has something to tell us about WW2. Whether we adopt his political view is a different issue. And I assume that no one on this list is an antisemite or a fascist.

Clearly, my take on the subject is very simple, let everyone talk freely. Let Netanyahu talk, let Zundel talk, let people make up their minds.

We have nothing to be afraid of, Justice is in our side.

Peace.

Gilad

Novelist stands by Armenian massacre remarks
By Georgina Prodhan
Sat Oct 22, 9:16 AM ET

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Turkish novelist Orhan Pamuk said on Saturday he stood by remarks about the massacre of Armenians by Ottoman Turks and about the deaths of Kurds in Turkey that could land him in jail for three years.

Pamuk goes on trial in December for "insulting and weakening Turkish identity" after talking about the massacre, a taboo in Turkey. He also said Turkish forces were partly to blame for the deaths of more than 30,000 Kurds in the 1980s and 90s.

"I repeat, I said loud and clear that 1 million Armenians and 30,000 Kurds were killed in Turkey, and I stand by that," Pamuk told a news conference in Frankfurt, where he is due to receive a major literary award on Sunday.

Zundel Files Lawsuit Against Ottawa
By Richard Blackwell
The Globe and Mail
11-3-5

Holocaust denier Ernst Zundel is suing the federal government for $10-million, claiming he was unjustly held in solitary confinement and deported to Germany.

In a statement of claim filed yesterday, Mr. Zundel said that his treatment at the hands of the government was illegal and unconstitutional.

Mr. Justice Pierre Blais of the Federal Court ruled in February that Mr. Zundel was a threat to national security and that he had tried to develop and maintain a global network of groups with an interest in a "right-wing, extremist, neo-Nazi mindset."

Mr. Zundel was deported to Germany in March, jailed there, and charged with inciting racial hatred.

Judge Blais said it was reasonable to hold Mr. Zundel in jail in Canada under the controversial security certificate process, which allows secret hearings that are closed to the accused and their lawyers.

Government lawyers will try to have Mr. Zundel's suit thrown out at a hearing in the Federal Court on Nov. 23.

Mr. Zundel says in his court filing that the government is trying to block his suit before the Supreme Court of Canada rules on the constitutionality of security certificates.

The top court has said it will examine the issue in two cases involving Hassan Almrei and Adil Charkaoui, who are suspected of being terrorists.

Mr. Zundel's lawyer, Peter Lindsay, said Mr. Zundel was held and deported "based on a process that we argue is blatantly unconstitutional and contrary to every sense of justice that any normal person would have.

"The rules of justice have to apply to everyone, even Ernst Zundel," Mr. Lindsay said.

In his claim, Mr. Zundel said the government's actions caused him "colossal damages arising from his hasty deportation which can neither be mitigated against nor reversed."

I wonder what a shrink would have to say about Zundel. He's the kind of guy that's just gotta get attention, even if it's the wrong kind from saying the worst muckraking things he can think of.

Canada let him stay too long.

Zundel goes to Canada to spew the type of hatred that he knows just won't fly back home. We let him stay so he can incite the impressionable young-uns to do hate-crimes? He's a wannabe mini-fuhrer.
His psychosis finally caught up to him in a concrete way (better late than never)--I'm happy Canada finally booted his sorry arse out of the country. Too many people (including Canadians) died because of his ilk. Voltaire my arse. He's an affront to human decency.

Agreed. People who the majority don't agree with should be silenced at least, preferably squashed. All dissent and disagreement must be done away with. Anyone who questions what is generally accepted as true should be burnt at the stake.

It sure is a shame that he never botherd to get full citizenship in Canada when he had the chance but instead kept his German citizenship. And it sure is a shame he decided to go live in the States and spread his version of the truth there. And it sure is a shame the States saw fit to deport him. And it sure is a shame Canada didn't want him back and bounced him back over to Germany. It's a shame he sat in a Canadian jail for so long because he tried to fight extradition to his native land, where his 'free speech' on the holocaust happens to be a felony.
A crying shame, I tells ya.
Robitusson, it must be breaking your heart.
