Jobseekers in Race to Get Jobs at Banks
Woori Bank said a total of 9,307 people applied for the openings of 200 banking jobs. Among them, 600 had master's or doctor's degrees. About 200 applicants were licensed public accountants, tax accountants and lawyers, the bank said. Kookmin Bank, which selects new employees this month, received applications from 10,175 people for 200 openings last month. "Banks are popular among college graduates because they offer higher salaries than ordinary companies," a Kookmin Bank official said.

Well, JTC, that isn't very friendly or modish of you.

How does it effect weagukins? We live in Korean society, so we are judged by Korean standards. Simple. If you like your low monthly pay, then keep it to yourself.

If it's a critique about joblessness then banks are condidered a good job in the West, too. In my (other-home) country, bank human relations people only consider those applicants with degrees. In Korea, perhaps because of the conditions change with banks no longer open on Saturday the job is seen as somewhat cushy; hence the high amount of applicants.

What do the hiring standards of banks have to do with foreign English teachers? It was a valid question. This is a site for and about FOREIGN ENGLISH TEACHERS. Given the forum it was posted in, that was a fair question. We have an off-topic forum for these.

And what does the hiring standards of banks have do with "being judged by Korean standards". The banks aren't judging us.
